Chapter Six

Caleb nervously waited for Antoine in a very lonely bench within Casa de Campo's dimly lit park. He moved his legs restlessly as if he was about to do something illegal. He saw a rather small figure walking towards him in the distance, it's immobilized shoulder indicated that it was Antoine undeniably. Antoine stretched Caleb's hand awkwardly and he sat down next to Caleb. They both stared silently at the pond facing them, it was a quiet, hot night; just the both of them and the moonlight. Antoine took out a yellow envelope he was carrying under his arm and handed it to Caleb. He looked at Antoine suspiciously and took some white papers out of the envelope.

"What is this?" Caleb asked confused.

"Some confidentiality forms" Antoine replied without looking at him.

"Huh?" Caleb frowned.

"You can't tell anybody we did that thing.." Antoine sighed. "I just need you to sign the forms."

"Why can't you say it?" Caleb said.

"Say what?" Antoine turned his head to look at him, Caleb's eyes immediately made contact with his.

"That we kissed" Caleb replied calmly.

"It's not that easy!" Antoine exclaimed.

"It is what it is" Caleb shrugged. "It was just a kiss."

"Whatever" Antoine rolled his eyes. "Just sign the papers, please."

"I don't need to sign any papers" Caleb handed him back the yellow envelope with the documents on top of it. "I promise not to tell anybody."

"Caleb, please" Antoine pushed the papers back towards Caleb. "I insist."

"Dude, what's your problem?" Caleb threw the papers on Antoine's lap.

"You!" Antoine exclaimed standing up and throwing all the papers on the grass. "You are my problem."

"Why?" Caleb stood up too and looked at Antoine directly into the eyes.

"I can't deal with the anxiety of you telling anybody we kissed" Antoine said. "I need to be sure you won't tell anybody because it would ruin my career."

"It was just a kiss, okay?" Caleb grabbed him by the shoulders. "It's not that I'm going to be around threatening you."

"Why should I be threatened by you?" Antoine snapped.

"Exactly, there's no need to be" Caleb smiled. "I know it must be hard for you all of this, but just think in what you really like and not what are you supposed to like."

"There is nothing to be thought about" Antoine said. "I'm not gay, I'm attracted to girls only."

"Don't lie to yourself, hun" Caleb rolled his eyes. "Do I look like a girl?"

"You don't know me" Antoine snapped. "I'm not attracted to you in the slightest."

"Say whatever you want, Antoine" Caleb shook his head and laughed ironically. "But your body doesn't lie."

"I don't understand" Antoine played the fool.

"Don't act like I didn't notice your boner when we were kissing" Caleb chuckled.

Antoine blushed and put his face between his hands.

"I didn't mean to read you" Caleb patted on his back, Antoine was cornered. "I know it sounds cliched but listen to your heart; he knows the answer."

"How do I listen to my heart?" Antoine frowned.

"Oh my goodness, Antoine!" Caleb exclaimed. "Just think about what you like: donuts or hotdogs? Or it could be both, it's up to you."

"But, how do I know?" Antoine asked frustratedly.

"You don't have to figure it out right now" Caleb reassured him. "Take a breath, relax and just sleep on it."

"How did you know?" Antoine uttered. "I know this question seems silly, but how did you know for sure?"

"Well" Caleb sighed. "Just think of the person you really like and you will know the answer."

"Don't ask me the answer" Caleb added as soon as he saw Antoine opening his mouth to say something. "You will know it."

Antoine went home feeling confused. He laid on his bed and stared blankly at the ceiling, he thought about Caleb's advice on thinking about a person he really liked. He scratched his head as he tried to think in somebody from his past; he thought of his ex Erika. He imagined her in lingerie; nothing. He thought of his tennis partner at the club: Ana, he imagined her with her tiny skirt and her sport bra playing tennis; nothing. Finally, he thought of Caleb— startled— he imagined the end of his golden treasure trail when they had breakfast together; eureka, the answer was the awakening of Antoine's third leg.

Antoine realized he was into Caleb when, besides his body approving the thoughts of him, he wanted him like something more than a sexual desire. Antoine really wanted to get to know him; what made him happy and what made him mad. He wanted to hold his hand and have dinner together; he craved for his attention and smiled just by thinking about him.

Antoine knew he was fucked up, not only because Caleb was the head resident of his thoughts —pun intended— but also because he wanted to taste Caleb's lips all over again; this time without stopping. He had never in his life felt that way, although he wanted to feel confused and puzzled, the way he felt for Caleb was clear as water.

Antoine teared up as he couldn't control himself, it was imposible for him to like a guy out of the sudden. He stood up and looked out the window, he stared at the city lights absentmindedly thinking about the outcome of his attraction towards Caleb. He clenched his fists and grimaced as his wounded hand reminded him that he needed to be more careful with it. He was sure that his teammates would discriminate him, his parents would dismiss him and his fans would stop believing in him. The damage was done, but it was up to him whether he would risk it all for an opportunity with Caleb. Did he really wanted to give it a try?

"I don't want to feel this way" Antoine whispered as he looked at the moon.

With tears in his eyes, Antoine felt helpless. Why now, he thought. He could've had this kind of confusion during his puberty or early adulthood, but it had to happen right when he was almost thirty years old in the peak of his career. Everything he had taken for granted all those years vanished right there as he stared to the full moon. He didn't know what to do, how to feel or who to blame; it was all so confusing, he just needed somebody to tell him everything was going to be just fine.

"Make it go away" he cried without quitting his eyes off the moon. "Please, I'm imploring you."
