Howdy! It's Liz here, the author of Obliviate. I wanted to spend some time answering questions or slight plot holes in this book just to clear up every little detail.
Why did Fred ignore Ellie after she started talking to Branimir?
Fred was clearly jealous of Branimir, and assumed that Ellie had liked him more than Fred. Since he and Ellie were never officially dating, he chose to distance himself, wondering if she'd choose him or Branimir.
Why did Fred and Ellie not make their relationship official over the summer?
Both of them had decided through their letters that if they were ever to be officially dating, they would do so in person, and not over letters.
Why was Ellie kidnapped and placed in the chest in Harry's fourth year?
Barty Crouch Jr. figured that since Elizabeth and Harry were friends, it might be a way to get closer to Harry. He assumed it would be a way to drive him to want to win the tournament even more.
This one I realized didn't get much of an explanation in the book. Sorry. :/
Why did Fred have to die in the end?
With the announcement of Ellie's pregnancy, it was kind of obvious that Fred would die in the explosion. It drove the plot and the ending forward so everything could be closed in a different way than I originally anticipated, which was giving everyone a happy ending. I'm not exactly about everyone getting happy endings around here.
Why did Lucius Malfoy murder Ellie in the end of the book?
Lucius was horrified by the fact that his son, Draco, had turned against his own father to save Ellie in the first place. He never wanted his son to be a murderer, even if he did want him on Voldemort's side. He was also avenging a fellow Death Eater, because he chose to believe Ellie was the cause of Rookwood's death, not Draco.
Why did George and Ellie begin dating after Fred's passing?
Both of them had been hurting because of Fred's death, which brought them closer to each other. George had always been protective over Ellie, and became protective over her baby, too. He wanted to make sure Ellie would live to have her and Fred's baby, and he got that far. He had always felt something more for Ellie, but never made it present because his twin brother's feelings seemed more important and more prominent than his own. Eventually, he and Ellie shared those feelings and began a relationship together. George was torn apart when the next person he loved died, just as his twin did.
It also felt more so like the ending of the original series, when Fred and Angelina had been together, and when Fred died, Angelina got with George. Writing the book this way felt more appropriate and closer to the original series than it did a fan fiction story.
What was the reason for one word chapter names and the bold & underlined phrase that was repeated in the book?
Those phrases were always the same every time: Fred Weasley, I love you more than you could ever even know. The chapter titles were only ever one word because of that phrase. If you take the first letter of every chapter title (except these q&a chapters), it spells out that exact phrase.
GOT ANYMORE QUESTIONS THAT YOU WANT ANSWERED?
I will gladly answer anything else you ask, but I felt that these were the biggest questions for this book. Please let me know if you have anything else you want to know.
