Vanessa stares out of her window, shifting in her chair as her fingers held a pencil, frozen mid-write. She stared at the lightning, jumping a little each time the thunder boomed. She glanced over her shoulder, chuckling as her eyes landed on the bundle of fluffy curls. It amazed her that he could sleep through this storm.
She huffed, returning back to the downpour. She didn't get why it was raining - it should be snowing. Peter could definitely find an excuse once he was awake, being the science lover he was.
Speaking of the boy, he began to stir in Vanessa's bed, groaning as his stomach ached where the stitches were. He ran his fingers over it, huffing. Vanessa spins around, smiling at the boy.
"Good morning," she chuckles, jumping again as thunder echoed in the sky and shook the house once more. It was his turn to chuckle.
"Morning, love," he mutters. "It's storming?" Vanessa nods, almost frowning. "Come 'ere then," he chuckles, opening up his arms. Vanessa grinned, sliding out of her seat and into his arms. "How long have you been up?"
"Only for fifteen minutes," she mumbles. "It started about then."
"I'm sorry I didn't wake up sooner," he responds softly, pressing a gentle kiss into her hair.
"It's okay, Pete," Vanessa retorts. "You don't need to be there for me for everything."
"I'm your boyfriend, Nessa," Peter chuckles, "of course I do." Vanessa rolls her eyes but cuddles into him deeper.
"What should we do today?" Her voice remained in a soft, innocent tone, and her eyelashes batted at the wall opposite of her.
"We can stay in, watch movies, and order takeout for supper?" Peter suggests. Vanessa smiles and nods, looking up at him.
"That would be perfect," she whispers. Peter grins, pressing another kiss to her nose. "You are perfect."
"Where'd that come from?" Peter laughs, brushing the hair out of her face and tucking it behind her ear.
"I feel very lovey today, or at least right now," Vanessa responds, resting her head back onto his chest, loosening the grip of the arm on top of his stomach to give his injury some relief.
"But it's the morning," Peter retorts.
"And?" Vanessa questions, looking back up at him. "You want me to be in a bad mood?" She quirks an eyebrow at him, losing her serious composure to laughter as he shakes his head wildly.
"I love when you're lovey," Peter whispers. "I want more of it, to be honest."
"Maybe you can get more of it," Vanessa shrugs. "If you play your cards right," she adds as she returns her gaze to the wall. Peter chuckles, running a hand gently up and down her back while the other did the same action to her arm that laid across his waist.
They laid in silence for a few moments before Peter sighed, deciding now was the time to discuss plans for Christmas. "Uh, Nessa?" he questions. She hums, looking up at him after his pause is too long.
"Pete?" she questions. She couldn't see the nerves building inside of Peter, his body ready to explode at any moment. He hoped the present he'd gotten for her was enough, and that she actually would love it rather than fake her fondness.
"Um... Christmas. You're spending it with Tony, right?" Now it was Vanessa's turn to sigh, beginning to sit up. Peter reached out his hand for her to help him sit up as well - both now sat on her bed across from each other.
"Tony won't... be here for Christmas," she huffs. A frown appears on Peter's face. He felt his blood boil as he thought about what could possibly be more important than spending a holiday about family without his family.
"When did you know this?" Peter asks.
"Two days ago."
"Vanessa!" Peter shouts. "Why didn't you tell me?"
"Because..." Vanessa looks to her crossed legs and shakes her head. "I don't know," she whispers finally.
"Nessa," Peter speaks, softening his tone. He pulls her head up, her eyes meeting his, and grabs both of her hands. "Why didn't you tell me?"
He saw the tears begin to pool in her eyes and he immediately wanted to retract the situation, erase her memory of the past couple days, and scold Tony for even thinking about leaving Vanessa alone on Christmas.
"It's my first Christmas without my mom," Vanessa mumbles. Peter's heart drops, but his grip on her finger tighten. "I'll more than likely be a mess, as it was also her favorite holiday." Peter didn't know one could hold so much empathy and guilt. "So I didn't want to tell you I'd be spending it alone because I knew you'd offer for me to come over to yours and spend it with you and May - which I will not do because I don't want to intrude on your guys' plans."
"Vanessa," Peter says breathlessly, "you'd be spending Christmas with us anyway. You're my girlfriend, whom I'm madly in love with. I want to spend Christmas with you." Vanessa's tears had spilled over by now, flowing at the pace of two rivers. "And especially at a time like this. You're not alone, okay? I'm always here for you."
"But May-"
"May would be more than happy to have you over for Christmas," Peter interjects, "so I don't wanna hear your lame ass excuses. You're spending Christmas with us, V." A whimper slips from Vanessa's lips as her tears fall quicker, her hands pulling away from Peter's so her arms could wrap around his neck. Peter winced but didn't make it physically known that her hug was putting him in pain. He missed her embrace, and that was the perfect medicine. His arms clutch around her waist.
"I love you so much, Peter," Vanessa whispers, holding onto him a bit tighter. Peter squeezes his eyes shut for a moment before relaxing them as her breathing fell normal against his touch.
"I love you so much more, Vanessa." She giggles, sniffling several times after pulling away from him.
"I just remembered your stitches," she responds. "I'm so sorry, you must've been in so much pain." Peter pouts, gesturing for her to come closer to him. Her eyebrows furrow, but she does as told. He grips the sides of her face without hesitation and pulls her into his body, their lips connecting with ease. Vanessa laughed against his lips, causing Peter to as well.
They pulled away eventually, but their foreheads rested on each other, her arms wrapped around his neck loosely and his hands holding onto her hips gently. "Christmas with the Parkers," Vanessa whispers. "Should be a grand time."
