Green Leader! Edd x Reader
No. No, no, no, no, no.
This isn't happening. That isn't him. It can't be him.
I watched him get shot out of the sky from Pat's harpoon. I watched the crash. I watched him die up on that hill. I even saw his soldiers come to get him.
I watched him be killed.
And yet...there he was. Sitting on the edge of the hill, smoking a cigar, staring down.
I didn't know what to think, or what to feel. I was scared that he was alive. But at the same time...I was happy.
My old friend was alive.
Dispite being terrified, I found myself trekking up the hillside, approaching him from behind. He didn't move at first, but as I came closer, I watched him raise his head. I continued moving towards him.
Suddenly, he stood up and turned to me, a handgun pointed at my chest. I froze, my breath catching in my throat. He was staring down, glaring at the ground. He looked so different from the last time I saw him. He had stubble growing on his face, and his eyes looked so tired and dull compared to the once glowing coffee brown I remember. Well, eye, I should say...half of his face was burnt, probably from the crash. Where his right eye once was, an eyepatch covered whatever deformation hid under there. He was about the same height, and a little skinnier than before. He wasn't in uniform like I saw on tv, and in his posters. He was dressed almost just like how he used to dress. And his hand...his hand was a light green. And it looked almost...robotic.
While I did see these details, I didn't pay much attention to them. My mind, my body, all of me was frozen as I stared at my old friend and the gun in his hands. He wouldn't look at me. He was staring at his own feet.
"E...Edd...?" I finally choked out. His eye widened as he heard my voice, and I saw his hand twitch. "...Y/N?"
"Edd...i-it's...it's me." I stuttered out, taking another small step foreward. He glanced up at me, looking shocked, and...it almost looked like he was a little scared. The hand holding the gun lowered a little. "That's...really you? You're okay?" he asked, disbelief in his voice.
I lightly clutched my left side, where the metal from a part of the house's rubble had deeply pierced me during the explosion. I'd almost been killed, but somehow, I survived.
I nodded. "I'm okay. Edd...oh, my god...what happened...?" I asked as I took another step closer.
Suddenly, he furrowed his brows and pointed the gun at me again, this time at my head. He held the handle with both hands, and I could see him shaking now. I tensed up, fear coursing through my blood. "S-stay back! Don't come any closer to me! I...I don't want to hurt you again!" He yelled.
I looked at him with fear, but also slight confusion. "...Why did you do it?"
He growled. "I...I don't know. I wanted power. I could have had everything...but I fucked up. I fucked up bad. I never should have left, I never should of- I never should have hurt you! I shouldn't have ever come back!"
I cautiously stepped closer again, and he didn't react. We were only about five feet apart. "Edd...we...we all make mistakes, okay? You...you didn't mean to hurt us. To hurt me. Right?"
He shook his head solumnly as he broke down. "I never meant to hurt you. I just- I was blind. I hurt you so bad, and now I have...now I have...nothing. Nothing but pain! And regret. And...and..."
"Calm down, Edd. Listen to me." I stepped foreward again, twice, and carefully, I raised my hands, and lowered his gun. He looked scared, but he let me.
I looked into his eye. The life inside of it was so, so dull now... "I forgive you."
He seemed to freeze. "You...what?"
"I forgive you." I repeated, stepping closer again and looking up at him. "Edd, do you know what hurt me more than what you did?"
"Wh...what?" He asked, his voice shaky. His eye appeared to be a bit watery now.
I hugged him.
"The fact that you left me again afterwards."
He didn't move for a few moments. I was still scared. But, I kept hugging.
Finally, I heard him drop the gun.
"I'm so, so sorry." He said as he began quietly crying, hugging me back. He held me like he would never let me go. I hope he doesn't.
"I told you, Edd. I forgive you."
I know I'll never let him go again.
