chapter 4.

I took Jai’s hand in mine, leading him through the crowd. I could feel him wince when I took it. We walked out of the house, and as we did, I let go of his hand. I finally pointed at some outdoor furniture and we sat down. Jai looked nervous, and it struck me at that moment how incredibly adorable he was. He’s innocence was so cute and it did turn me on. He was wearing white converse, beige chinos a tucked in shirt and a navy blue cardigan, and of course, a beanie. This one was deep red. He looked me in the eye, and I stared back at his warm brown eyes, he was waiting for me to talk.

‘So, uhm, I wanted to apologize, I kno-‘

‘You have nothing to apologize for, I’m the one who should! I’m sorry my friends and brother were acting rude before’

‘The had all means to. I know my friends haven’t been nice to you, and I have been no better, I never told them to stop mocking you’ I looked down on my hands, to ashamed to meet his eyes. He didn’t speak, so I continued.

‘You should know I’m a huge fan of yours..’ I smiled sheepishy and Jai looked surprised, as if wasn’t sure if I was messing with him or not.

‘I’ve seen all your videos.. quite a couple of times’

‘Really?’

‘Really.’

We started to talk about the videos, and I mentioned my favourites ones. We chatted happily, and I took the chance of asking him questions that had been burning inside me to be asked for so long. Two times, I had to ask him to repeat himself because I was not really listening; his smile was somewhere near enchanting.

‘So, the hobo actually DID harrass you? I thought it was all fake..’

‘Naah, and one time, Luke and Beau actually got arrested.

‘Are you serious?’ I was laughing, and about to ask why, when I heard my name was being called.

‘Alex? ALEX?’

‘Fuck it’ I mumbled, exchange a look with Jai.

‘Lex what the FUCK?’ said Jessica eyeing me and Jai.

‘Why are you hanging out with him?’  said Bella, who were accompanied with a guy in Mike’s year called Josh.

‘Has it striked you you yet that I want to? Anyway, it’s none of your business’ I replied coolly.

They looked at me with disbelief.

‘And I though Jake was joking or something, he said you raged at him and defended him.’ said Kaitlyn and cast her head in Jai’s direction. They laughed.

‘Yes I did, and you know what? I’m sick and tired of you judging people you don’t know, what has Jai and his friends ever done to you? You are mean, and nasty bitches, all of you.’

People were starting to crowd around us, watching us fight. Alice came walking alongside with the guy she made out with, and she was clearly tipsy.

‘Heey you guys… wha- what is going on?’ She spotted me and Jai, and she seemed to understand the situation, because she mumbled ‘Oh.’

‘If that’s what you want, Alexandra.’ said Jessica coldly. ‘Come on girls’ they stroded off.

‘Alice, you coming?’ Kaitlyn was talking to Alice, who had a torn expression on her face.

‘I… uhm, I err..’ She looked at me. ‘You go ahead, I’ll.. I’ll be with you in a minute’

‘Don’t bother’ I said. If she was doubting on continuing 14 years of friendship, I had no time for her.

She looked hurt. I couldn’t care less at that moment. The guy she had making out with helped her get away. There were still around fifteen people standing in the garden observing us.

‘And what the fuck are you staring at? This ain’t no fucking zoo, FUCK OFF!’ I yelled angrily at them. Some of them looked scared as they walked away.

‘Just a nice little chat with my friends’ I told Jai.

He looked upset.

‘You shouldn’t have done that.. for me’ he said, and he did look sincerely sorry. ‘I didn’t.. I don’t want to cause you any trouble with your friends, I’m sorry.’

‘I wouldn’t want to keep friends like that anyway.. would you?’

‘No, I guess..’

‘It’s no bigger loss, Jai, it’s ok.’

Within five minutes, I’d lost my five best friends, and on the way, gained one
