Xenophobia: the fear of the unknown
Roonie's POV"Why can't you just tell me?!" Charlie begged over the phone.
"It's not important."
"Yes, it is! You were so happy and smiley when we left the party yesterday!"
"Yeah, but nothing happened, I was just happy."
"But why?!" I smiled and stared at the selfie that Grayson took on my phone while I wasn't looking. "Did you finally solve that long college math problem you've been working on for a week?"
"No."
"Did you finish your English book report?"
"I finished that last week, so, no."
"Did you get ice cream?"
"No. I got frozen yogurt."
She gasped which startled me a bit. "You met a boy!"
"No, I didn't," I lied.
"Yes, you did!"
"Charlie, you already know that I'm not overly obsessed with boys," I said with an eye roll.
"I know that, but that doesn't mean you didn't hang out with a boy!"
"I hung out with Dylan and his football friends, that's it."
She gasped dramatically once again. "Gabe Johnson finally came through!" She squealed.
"No, he didn't." She groaned.
"Just tell me, Roo!"
My phone vibrated.
Grayson Dolan (1)
I felt a bright smile grow on my face as I stared at the notification.
"Roonie, are you even listening to me!?" Charlie asked snapping me back into reality.
"N-no, sorry..." I stuttered feeling guilty for not paying attention to my best friend because some boy texted me.
"Are you okay?" She asked softly.
"Yeah, what were you saying?" I asked. I set the phone down on my nightstand and put the phone on speaker.
I walked over to my closet and grabbed a pair of sweats and a Jonas Brother's T-shirt. I pulled my curtains shut and quickly changed.
"So, Ethan and I decided to stay friends-"
"What?!" I asked.
"I know... as in love I am with him, I just don't know if we know each other that well. We just met!"
"Honestly, Charlie... you are literally the human form of mood swings. Like if 'mood swing' was a person, it'd be you."
"And if 'keeping secrets from your best friend' was a person, it'd be you."
I laughed.
"I have nothing to hide, Charlie..."
"Sure," she said in a sarcastic tone. I just laughed. "Just tell me!"
"I'll give you a hint," I said with a smile.
"Okay!" She squealed.
"It involves a boy." She began to gasp and cheer loudly.
"Who?!"
"I can't say."
"Why not?" She whined.
"I'll tell you after I see him tomorrow."
"Tomorrow!" She began to scream as I laughed. "Okay, I need to go to bed so I can process all of this stuff."
