heortophobia: the fear of holidays
Roonie's POV: *Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years*
"You should come to New Jersey with me," Grayson said with a smile.
"I'd love to, Gray-"
"Yay!"
"But..."
"I hate buts," he said with a frown.
"I can't leave Kian alone during this time of the year. You understand, right?"
"Yeah... But I mean, it'll only be for Thanksgiving and we can bring him along!" Grayson smiled. I smiled and reached across the dining table to hold his hand.
"Grayson, this is your family. I don't want to intrude by bringing my brother." He frowned once again.
"It'll only be for Thanksgiving day. We can fly out the day before and come back the day after Thanksgiving. It'll still be the same-"
"I can't, Gray. I'm all Kian has left. I need to be with him."
"Don't you guys have any other family? Like aunts and uncles?"
"No... my parents didn't have any siblings. And my grandparents are all deceased, except for my mom's mom. She's living in a senior home down in Colorado. Kian and I used to see her all the time, but paying for bills and finding money to go visit her got hard."
"I'm sorry..."
"You have nothing to be sorry for, Grayson." I smiled and gave his hand a tight squeeze.
He smiled and kissed my knuckles. "Maybe we can do something with my family next year."
"I'd like that."
- *Thanksgiving*
"Grayson, I told you to go," I said as I watched Grayson cook meals.
"I wanna be with you. Wherever you are, I wanna be."
"You need to be with your family."
"You are my family."
"Grayson, I'm being serious." He looked over at me and smiled.
I watched as he set the dining table. I followed him and placed cups next to the plates. He turned and looked at me before pointing at his apron.
"Kiss the chef," I read aloud.
"You have to. I didn't make the rules." I laughed and kissed his cheek. He looked at me with an unsatisfied look. "I meant on my lips, but okay."
"You're a dork." I laughed. "Why did you set so many plates?"
"We're going to be dining with your stuffed animals."
"Shut up." He just laughed.
"When will Kian be here?"
"Um... I think he'll be here soon."
There were a few knocks at the door. Grayson ran to get the door.
"Where is that beautiful girl?" I looked over, hearing a familiar voice. "Roonie!"
I smiled. "Hi, Lisa."
"Happy Thanksgiving," she said, embracing me in a tight hug.
"Happy Thanksgiving to you too." I smiled. She moved aside and I gave Cameron a hug.
Cameron and Lisa followed Ethan over to the living room where they talked and laughed. I stayed in the kitchen to help Grayson cook.
"Surprise," Grayson said with a smile.
