December 15, 2011. That was a really important day for Scott and Mitch. This was because it was the day they became a couple. They hadn't been dating yet, but they had kissed on a few occasions. They were still just friends, but all that changed when they were walking downtown one night.
(December 15, 2011):
Scott and Mitch had just finished filming for the Sing Off's Christmas episode with the rest of Pentatonix and were now taking a night walk downtown looking at all the decorations along the buildings and shopping, as best friends do. They were talking and laughing and drinking Starbucks, all of which they did on a daily basis. They had decided to go out one night to a small café to have dinner, and then they took a walk around downtown LA to kill some more time.
As they were walking, Mitch subconsciously reached down and grabbed Scott's hand, gently squeezing it. Scott looked down at their now intertwined fingers and smiled, blushing a little. He gently squeezed Mitch's hand in response and began swinging their arms a little bit. Eventually, he stopped, but left his hand connected to Mitch's as they kept walking.
They made their way back to the apartment that they had just recently bought together. After they walked inside, Mitch closed and locked the door while Scott plugged in the Christmas tree and sprayed a little more of the pine-scented solution that Mitch had on it. Mitch then lit the scented candle and the smell of apple cinnamon filled the house. The stockings were hung on the mantle, mostly for decorative purposes. The lamp on the end table gave off a warm yellowish glow in the living room, and the fireplace was on, warming up the whole house.
Scott and Mitch were sitting on the couch watching a movie. Suddenly, Scott paused it. "Mitchy, I have something to tell you," he started. Mitch nodded, urging him to go on. Scott then took a deep breath. "Mitch, you've been my best friend since we were ten, and I've felt this way for a long time, but I've always been too scared to tell you." He paused. Mitch continued to listen. Scott started again. "I'm in love with you, and I have been for a long time. I was always just scared to tell you because I didn't think you would feel the same and I didn't want to ruin our friendship and--" Mitch cut him off by leaning forward and kissing him.
"Scott, I've felt the same way since I first met you. I was scared to tell you for the same reason you were scared to tell me. I didn't think you would feel the same way because I didn't think I was all that special, but I didn't want to ruin our friendship, so I just never said anything," he said after they pulled apart.
Scott looked at him in disbelief. "You didn't think you were special?" he asked. Mitch shrugged. Scott shook his head. "Mitch, you are the most special person in the world to me. You've been there for me during my best and worst times, like realizing my sexuality and being able to come out. When I was freaking out about it, you said it was normal and comforted me. You're my best friend in the whole world, and you are indeed special. You have a sass level that no one else can pull off, and an awesome fashion sense. You're also the most beautiful person to ever exist. You have the prettiest voice in the world, and the cutest laugh ever. You are special, even though you might not think so. You're so special to everyone who loves you, including me," he said.
Mitch was tearing up at Scott's speech, and he was sure he wouldn't be able to speak without breaking into sobs. Soon, Scott began speaking again. "So, with all that said, I have a question for you," he said. "Would you please fall in love with me again this Christmas season and do me the honor of being my boyfriend?" he asked. Mitch pulled himself together enough to answer. "Scott, of course I'll be your boyfriend!" he exclaimed, throwing himself into Scott's arms and hugging him. Scott hugged him back for a while before pulling away and getting his coat, putting it on him.
"Scott, what are you doing?" Mitch asked. "Taking you outside," Scott answered, putting his own coat on. "Why?" Mitch asked. "So we can slow dance," Scott said. "Why can't we just--" he cut himself off with a squeal as Scott picked him up by the waist and carried him over to the back door. He set Mitch down in front of it and unlocked and opened it, stepping outside. The string lights came on at his presence, giving off a nice yellow glow.
"Scott, it's so coldddd!" Mitch complained, standing in the doorway and wrapping his arms around himself. "Just come on!" Scott said, waving Mitch over. Mitch hesitated, but went over to Scott anyway. Once he was within reach, Scott gently took him by the arm and pulled him into his chest, holding him there in a comforting embrace.
Scott then pushed Mitch back a little and took his arms, putting them around his neck. He put his hands on Mitch's waist and pulled him in a bit closer. Mitch broke away from Scott and walked up to his speaker, connecting his phone and looking for a romantic Christmas song. He found "Cold December Night" by Michael Bublé and put it on. He made sure it was loud enough for only them to hear. He went back over to Scott and they got back into position. Then they began to gently sway from side to side, staring into each other's eyes.
Suddenly, snow started falling down. The two boys looked up and smiled when they saw Kirstie above them, pouring little bits of paper on them. "Wow. It's like one of those romantic Christmas movies they play on Hallmark," Mitch commented, looking up at Scott, who had a little bit of the "snow" in his blond hair. Scott nodded. "It is, and I'm about to make it a lot more romantic," he said. Mitch furrowed his brows in confusion. "What do you mean?" he asked.
"I mean, since we're now officially boyfriends, I want something that'll last forever, so our first kiss should be on this cold December night so we can remember the day we first started dating," he answered. "Good idea," Mitch replied. Scott leaned down and Mitch pushed up onto his toes to meet him halfway in a sweet, passionate, gentle kiss, grabbing onto Scott's biceps to steady himself. Scott snaked one hand around the back of Mitch's neck and lifted the other one to gently cup his jaw. Kirstie squealed as she watched them kiss. She was the ultimate Scomiche shipper.
They pulled apart and rested their foreheads together, dipping back in a few times to give each other light pecks. Scott moved his hands to take Mitch's arms from around his shoulders to hold his hands. They stood like that for a few minutes before heading back inside to cuddle on the couch some more and have some hot chocolate.
