~Intro~
Remeber your imaginary friend from your childhood? Remeber how no one else could see him? But you didn't think he was actually real and you outgrew him.
Maely thinks her imaginary friend is real.
She knows it.
She's 17 and she still hasn't outgrown him. But it's not like she can help it; she's schizophrenic.
Her imaginary friend's name is Calum and, usually, he loves her. Usually because some days he bullies her. Usually because some days he wispers in her ear and someone ends up hurt.
Maely sees lots of things that no one else sees. She never questions herself because how else can you explain the things that happen? It's because of these things Maely ended up at an orphanage for the disabled.
No one ever said directly that she was disabled, they just said she learns differently. What's the difference, Maely thought.
Schizophrenia isn't the only reason Maely ended up with these wack-jobs. Tourette's Syndrome is the other one.
She had 2 main tics, both verbal and motor. She scratches her arm and says, "Shit."
She's performed her motor tic so much, there's a large patch of raw and bloody skin on her left arm. No matter how hard she or anyone tried, they couldn't get her to stop. She would just rip the bandages off and scratch. It's not that it itched, she just had to scratch it.
It physically hurt if she didn't, as well as muttering "Shit."
Maely had been smacked many times for saying that word. She knew it was never fair, yet she never protested to anyone.
Calum always had a few unkind words and a threaten to kill. That shut everyone right up.
He'd always threaten but Maely ended up carrying out his dirty work. She would cave out of fear he would leave her.
