Calum's eyelids shot open.

The bedsheets were soaked in sweat and his breathing was labored. He moved his arms, searching blindly for Maely's body. When he couldn't find her, he rolled over.

He squinted in the dark and sat up.

He suddenly lurched backward, clutching his chest. Calum screamed slightly, but quickly recomposed himself.

There, in the dark, Maely's pale skin glowed. She looked like a ghost standing there, observing herself in the mirror.

She was almost naked, only standing in her undergarments.

She turned around when Calum screamed. Her bloodshot eyes fixed on him with slight unrecognition, but then she remebered.

She turned back to the mirror, no doubt resuming her conversation with Lily.

Calum's heart stuttered more than once as he made his way over to Maely.

Her rib cage and hip bones were visable through her tightly stretched skin.

Calum wrapped his shaking arms around her, trying to steady the both of them. It made no difference to Maely; she could not feel his touch.

She was too engaged in what Lily was saying, until suddenly, she was gone.

It was as if Maely snapped out of hypnosis. A small amout of color returned to her skin, her expression looked less haunted. She even smiled at the sight of Calum.

He relaxed and kissed the top of her head.

"How long have you been standing here?" Calum asked, breaking the ominous silence.

Maely turned to face him, burying herself in his exposed torso.

"I don't really know," she said. Her voice was raw, as if she'd been screaming. "I'm sorry for scaring you."

Calum's knees felt weak. He could not push his nightmare out of his head. The thought of Jocelyn lingered, fucking up his emotions.

"I-It's alright." Calum said.

He looked into the mirror and his sadness deepened. It hurt so much; it wasn't alright. He wanted to cry and scream, but he held it in, held most of it in.

A single tear trickled down his cheek.

He couldn't tear his eyes off the reflection.

Maely was a little more than half his height, his hand as big as the small of her back.

She was human, but when he looked in the mirror, all he could he was a tall boy hugging a ghost.

"Everything's alright."
