"Will you sleep over tonight?" Maely asked Calum.

He stood in the doorway of her dorm, playing with his sleeves. "Like...sleep with you?" he asked.

She nodded and his cheeks tinted.

"Uh..." He looked to Carson for help.

"Sure, Maely. He'll sleep over." Carson said.

Maely grinned and scooted over in bed. "Yeah, let me just get my pajamas." Calum said hesitantly.

When he got back, Maely was in her pj's. They weren't really pj's, they were just a shirt and short pants. Calum couldn't help but stare. "Well, c'mon!" she said, snapping him out of his daydream.

Carson looked up from her cigarette and smiled at how uncomfortable he looked. Calum didn't know her very well and now he was sleeping with her.

He sat next to Maely very stiffly. This was one of the most uncomfortable things he'd ever done.

Carson couldn't help but snicker at his face.

Maely snuggled up to him, like it was the most normal thing in the world. Calum couldn't help but notice how sickly skinny she was and began to worry. He grew a bit more relaxed once Maely fell asleep.

He shot Carson a look as she turned out the light. "Goodnight, snuggle bugs." she snickered.

Calum lay awake for a long time, his mind racing with nothing specific. Until it landed on one topic in particular: Maely. He worried deeply for her.

Calum wrapped his arms around her skinny waist and rested his chin on her head. Maely subconsciously buried herself closer to him, breathing in the tropical fruit and beer. Calum smiled and tapped his fingers on her back to the rhythm in his head.

He started to like snuggling with her and wished he hadn't been so awkward. But it's not like she noticed.

Maely rolled over and scratched her arm. Calum had seen the large patch of raw and bloody skin earlier, and wanted to throw up. He held her hands to keep her from itching and buried his face in the crook of her neck. Maely shivered a bit as his breath fanned across her neck.

And that's when it sunk in.

He was tumbling head over heels for this...child that he met only two days ago. He pushed that thought away and willed himself to fall asleep.

An hour later, he was still awake and his stomach was in knots. He was so frustrated about his inability to fall asleep that he felt like screaming.

His grip on Maely's hands tightened without him realizing. She rolled over in attempt to get away from his grasp. He felt extremely guilty and let go of her hand altogether.

Calum's mind wandered again and, finally, he drifted off.
