It took all I had to stay in my seat when that asshole grabbed Liah's shoulder, and when Niall straight up about broke his jaw, I wanted to get on the table and dance. But the damage had been done. Liah had gone off to god-knows-where, while Niall stood there like a lost puppy. Dalton had run off, the coward. I scanned the restruant for Liah, but came up empty handed. My guess was she was outside.

"Uh, listen. I'm gonna go look for Liah," I said kind of awkwardly to the boys.

I headed out the door and Niall started to follow. I turned around and stopped him.

"It's lovely that you want to help. Really. I'm glad you're so concerned, but right now, this isn't your business," I said raising my hands up.

"I had to punch the guy. That made it my business."

"No YOU made it your business. LIAH didn't. I'm sorry but this isn't the best time for this argument. Go sit back down," I ordered, pointing at the boys. "And tell Harry to stop winking. It's creepy."

I spun on my heel and headed out the door. The sun had long since set and it was getting chilly. If my leather jacket wasn't keeping me warm, Liah must be freezing in her light sweatshirt. I jogged around the building, looking all around for her. After a moment I heard a faint cry from the alley. Liah was curled up against the brick wall with her face in her hands, her back rising and falling in uneven sobs. I slid my back down the wall and sat beside her, curling my boots under me.

"Alex I-" she started, but I stopped her.

"Stop. I know." Liah nodded and shivered. I slipped my jacket off and wrapped it around her shoulders.

"I feel like I can't go one place and try to be happy, without him showing up," she sniffled and wrapped the jacket tighter around her.

"i can't control when he shows up, but I can tell you one thing. That piece of shit does not own your happiness. He owns nothing about you. You are yours. Not his." My voice was strong and starting to get angry thinking about the scum bag. Liah smiled.

"I keep trying to tell myself that. It's nice to hear it coming from someone else. It's more believeable."

"Well I just speak it. You live it. The way you told him to back off? You have more balls than he'll ever have." Liah laughed through her tears.

The sound of the restraunt door opening made me turn my head just in time to see Niall step out into the night.  He looked left and right, but didn't see us. I nudged Liah's elbow.

"And you know what?" I asked. "You've got someone right there who cares. That's who you should be worrying about."

"Even if he is Lucky Charms?" Liah smirked.

"Even then." Liah turned and glanced at Niall.

"You're right. But I don't think I'm ready just yet."

"I wouldn't exspect you to be," I stated.

"You know that means more time with the boys, right?"

I clenched my jaw and forced a smile.

"What ever it takes. I'm not saying I'll like it, but I can try."

"Please try," she pleaded.

"I promise."

Liah smiled and played with the edges of her jacket, trying to even her breathing. I sighed and stayed at my best friend's side, not caring how long I had to.

The boys invited us to a fair the next day. Liah and I headed straight to the rollercoaster while some of the boys were more hesitant.
