"They're going to hate me."

"They're going to love you."

"No. They're going to think you've gone mad, bringing me."

"They already know I'm mad."

"I'm not exactly likeable. I mean, I'm me!"

"Exactly! I'm bringing YOU to meet them."

"Well I'm not very good at making friends."

"Alex, they're going to love you," Louis argued again.

I shifted in the car seat, and Louis reached over and pulled my chin to face his.

"Alex. I love you. Therefore, my family will love you. Got it?"

I sighed and grabbed his hand that was still on my face.

"Louis, I love you too, but if you grab my face again, I'll cut you."

He let go of me laughing and kissed my cheek.

"There's that winning Alex charm!"

"Dammit! Ug- They're going to hate me. Why was I born so sarcastic and rude?!" I yelled dramatically at the cieling.

Louis rolled his eyes and took my wrist, dragging me out of the car. As we got closer to his door, I held onto Louis' arm and kept my body touching his. He shook his head, laughing.

"They don't bite."

"Yeah, but I do. This is for their safety, not mine," I lied, clutching his arm tighter.

In all honesty, I was about ready to pee my pants...

As Louis opened the door, I took a giant breath and braced myself.

"Mum? I brought a friend!" Louis yelled into the house.

I chuckled to myself.

Yeah.

A friend...

But the small giddy feeling quickly left and the nerves replaced it once again. Louis squeezed my hand reassuringly.

"Just a moment, honey," Louis' mum said from the next room.

I let out a breath, and Louis turned to me, squeezing both my shoulders.

"Hey," he whispered. "Relax. Why are you so nervous? You're Alex." He smiled broadly, but I didn't smile back. He noticed this. "What?" he asked softly.

"I... What if they don't like me. Honestly. I mean... My parents are - well - my parents. And if I screw this up like I..." I bit down hard on my lip. Louis rubbed my shoulders.

"Is that why you're nervous?" I didn't answer. "Love, you're not going to screw this up. You've never screwed anything up." He lowered his voice. "Listen, I know you haven't talked about your parents. And I understand. You don't have to. But I'm not worried at all that my family will like you. You're perfect."

I gave a half-hearted smile.

"You think so?"

"I know so."

He kissed my forehead and I hugged him tightly. Someone cleared their throat, and Louis and I sepereated. His mother stood in the living room with us, smiling a little awkwardly. After I stepped back from hugging Louis, she went in and hugged her son.

"Oh Louis! It's so good to see you. The girls were all excited about what presents you were going to bring them," she laughed.

"Who says I brought presents?" Louis laughed.
