Someone was softly playing with my hair, gently waking me. I buried my face farther into their chest, and felt the low vibration as they laughed. My hand tugged on thier shirt and I moaned, not wanting to wake up. They said my name. Softly.
"Alex." When I didn't move from my position, they tickled my sides and I smiled.
"Stop it!" I giggled.
My eyes fluttered open and I realized who was lying next to me. I slid back as Louis' eyes met mine. As I pushed myslef from him, he was confused. I sat up quickly and hunched over, breathing heavily. Louis tried to put his hand on my back, but I stood up before he could.
"Um... I'm going to go... make... pancakes," I stuttered out.
I realized what I said, then made my way to the kitchen. Louis pulled off the covers and grasped my wrist, but I slipped out of his grip.
"Alex-"
"No. I- I just..." I trailed off and went into the kitchen awkwardly.
I had no real need for breakfeast, but taking out the ingrediants and turning on the stove helped my mind stay off of... whatever happened last night. But my mind was still flustered and I ended up putting a full uncracked egg in the batter.
"Shit." I cringed at my own stupidity and pulled the egg out of the batter. I wiped my hand with a towel.
"Not the best way to put in the eggs," Louis said leaning against the counter.
His hair was messed up and wild, and I couldn't help but wonder if I had run my hands through it. God stop it! I quickly turned back to the batter, still not shaking the question. What had I done last night?
"Alex."
I didn't turn around. I was afraid if I looked at him, the questions would just grow. He grabbed my wrist, stopping me from stirring. I turned and he was right there.
"Yeah?" I said, finally.
We stood there for a minute. His eyes were looking straight through me. He slowly cupped my face with his hand and let the other wrap around my waist. Why wasn't I pulling away? He closed his eyes and my senses went numb. Every thought I had went away, staring at the soft curve of his lips that were getting closer and closer.
Finally my mind turned on and I took a step back. Louis still had his hand on my waist.
"I'm sorry. I can't- I can't do this," I said flustered.
"Why? What's wrong?"
"This. You. I'm not-"
"Not what? You're perfect."
"I'm not going to be your rebound! Been there. Done that. Not going back," I stated.
"Rebound doesn't count if you wanted them before you broke up."
"I'm not getting sucked into this!" I yelled. I didn't mean to, but I yelled, hiding my face in my hands. "I'm not going to be one of those girls that falls for someone they can't have."
Louis carefully put his hand behind my neck.
"You can have me, Alex. The question is, do you want me back?"
"Louis-"
"Wait. Don't answer that yet."
Without warning, his lips locked with mine. My heart jumped to my throat, but I closed my eyes and felt as my hands instinctively went to his hair. He lifted me up onto the counter, moving aside the bowl. My legs hung on either side of his and swayed back and forth. He smiled through the kiss and whispered as he kissed my neck.
