Louis was pacing, running his hands through his hair as I leaned up against the wall and banged my head, trying to think. I closed my eyes and ran through any possible solution. Louis muttered to himself but low enough to where I couldn't hear. He looked up at me and hesitantly said my name.
"I... I don't know what to do, Lou. This is not what I wanted to happen tonight." I started to shake my head to keep away the tears that I felt coming.
"Alex, everything is going to be okay," he said, hugging me around my waist. "Me and you are gonna go back in there, and if your parents have anything to say, we'll go. Alright? I won't make you stay here."
He took my chin and made me look at him. A tear slowly slipped out of my eye, but he wiped it away.
"Hey," he said. "Talk to me."
"Your mom was just starting to like me. I felt like I could be part of a family. Your family. And I thought that the most important thing in my life - you - could just be untouched by my parents."
He put both hands on the side of my face.
"Nothing they could ever do or say could keep me away from you."
"I know." I gave a bleak smile.
He laughed a little.
"Then why are we still back here?"
"Because I still don't know what I'll say if they come up to me."
"Come on," he said pulling my hand. "We'll do this together."
I took a deep breath and fell into step with him until we came back to the table. His mom gave both of us an odd look as we sat down, but quickly we were included into the conversation. I smiled and talked, but I couldn't shake the feeling like my parents were watching me. I knew I was being silly. I saw them be seated on the other side of the restraunt. Even then, my nerves wouldn't settle. Lou calmed me down a little as his thumb rubbed the back of my hand, but I just wanted to leave
After a while, my mind started to ease. Our food came and immediately I became obsessed with the delicious sauce on the chicken. Me and Lou both expressed our pleasure.
Him: "Oh my god."
Me: "I know right?"
Him: "This is-"
Me: "From heaven."
Him: "Prepared by angels."
Me: "How is this real? Am I breathing. Check, Lou. Am I alive?"
Him: "I think so, because I'm here too. Slap me. Am I dreaming?"
Me: "I will not slap you, becuase we are in a fancy restraunt. And slapping you would mean putting my fork down."
The whole time, his family was laughing at me and Louis getting ready to sell our souls for a bowl of this heavenly food. His mom started to talk about something rather boring, so Lou started to discretely make his little sisters laugh by doing stupid things. I covered my mouth to keep from laughing. After a minute, she looked over at Lou, who immediately put his hands in his lap and gave a cheeky grin of 'innocence'. She shook her head at him, but then her attention shifted to behind him. I turned towards where she was looking and saw a couple walking towards the table.
"Lou," I whispered to him, panicked.
He turned and immediately put a protective hand on my arm.
"You'll be fine, Alex. Just look at me, okay? Not at them. At me."
I did as he told me and kept my eyes locked on his. He smiled and bit his lip a little.
"Have I ever told you I love that your eyes are gold? They're so breathtaking."
