AoT SnK: (Jean x OC) Something worth fighting for

Chapter Five

                I awoke to the sound of sobbing beneath me. Ivy was curled up holding a pendent close to her chest.

            "Mom, Dad, I miss you" she sobbed. I jumped down from my bunk landing with a soft thud. I walk over to the crying girl.

              "Ivy? you okay?" i asked. "I'm leaving tomorrow..going back to the fields, work with my parents" she sobbed. I just stood there and watched her cry over her family. seeing her decide to run away made my resolve to fight the titans even greater.

             "Then do what you have to do. I'll worry about the titans, go spend your time with your family. " i smiled, patting her on the back.

                Ivy nodded and started packing her things. The other girls began to stir at the commotion but continued sleeping. After Ivy packed her things she hugged me quickly.

        "Thank you Kat" she whispered. I just stood there with a smile and waved her off.

                No one would ask where she went because we all knew that those who didnt show up had deserted.

             My thoughts went out to Ivy's family, they were lucky to get their beloved daughter back. Well there went my bunk mate.

                I climbed back to my bunk and stared at the ceiling. "Mama...Papa.." i murmured. Would i have joined the soldiers if i had both of my parents? No I thought. I saw the horror the collassal titan caused. Even if i had escaped with my parents, i can't forget the loss and the bodies i saw lying cold on the ground.

                My thoughts had soon faded as i fell asleep, The dead bodies of the citizens of the shiganshina district played through my dream. Tears had rolled down my cheeks then onto my pillow. I wasnt strong enough then...but now, I will kill all the titans....surely...

                I awoke to someone shaking my shoulder gently. I turn around to see a black haired girl with two different colored eyes.  My eyes widened as i saw a pair of fake cat ears on top of her head. "Hey, stop staring. Your as bad as all the other girls in this cabin" the girl sighed. " I was trying to wake you up or you'll be late." she said and turned around. "S-Sorry" i replied and wiped my tears off my cheeks. I jumped off my bunk and began to get dressed.

                The girl who had woken me up now waited by the door for me. "The name is Rose." she introduced herself. I smiled and shook her outstretched hand "Kat" i replied. We share a smile and go on to our normal training. Rose and I had talked throughout the day. I had gotten to know her little by little. Her life story adding fuel to my desire to punish the titans for what they had done to humanity. Rose and I layed out in the feild after dinner. The sky had darkened but we didnt mind. 

                "I lived in wall Rose for my whole life, My father was part of the Garrison branch. When Wall Maria had fallen, he was there to evacuate the citizen, and died trying to get every last one of them to safety." I was shocked at how calm Rose remained while telling such a sad tale. "I was with my Mother, Older brother, and little sister when father had died. My mother found his death to be another reason to spoil my little sister. They had no idea that we could be next. My brother and i adored our father, and wanted nothing but revenge."

                "After my Mother had died from a genetic disease that skipped  every other generation, my brother was left to watch us, though soon left himself after the royal government sent people out to 'reclaim Wall Maria'. After the troops came back, and my brother not among them, i ran away. My little sister soon was adopted by a family, but i lived in the streets. Eren, Mikasa, and Armin were my only friends till i came here. Now i promised over my fathers grave that i will join the survey corps, and avenge his death." she  whispered the next part " I will make sure his death was not in vain.."

                Those last words played through my mind. "I will make sure his death was not in vail" Yes i thought. Mama and Papa will not have died in vain while i am alive. That, i promise. I sat up and extended my hand towards Rose. " Rose, your words have inspired me, but your determination drives me to work harder." i laughed. "Basically what i'm trying to say is that, I want to help you achieve your goal, as a comrade, and as a friend." i smiled. Rose stared at me with her calm eyes but i saw the shock that was hidden behind her eyes.

                Rose took my hand with a small smile. "Alright, partner" she laughed. That was how i made a new comrade amon the 104th cadet squad. If i wasn't sparring with Jean or a few others, Rose and I would test our strength against each other. Rose often sat with Eren Mikasa and Armin but we ocassionally glanced at eacho ther across the mess hall. Rose...She had lost family to the titans too...I clenched my hands making my knuckles white. Just how much more will the titans take from us?

                Time seemed to fly by, my three years training began to pay off and now, when i'm so close to joining the Survey Corps, I have my friends to back me up... but my thoughts kept going back to Gem and how she was fairing. I'm almost there Gem, just wait for me...
