AoT SnK: (Jean x OC) Something worth fighting for

Chapter Ten

                A garrisson member had confronted Rose and I, giving us instructions for what squad we would be assigned to. Rose was assigned to Connie's group, while I was with Jean. We were about to leave when i saw a familiar figure in a green cloak. "Gem!" i shouted. Gem walked towards me giving me the signal to stay quiet. "shh!, if they know im here i'll get sent back  to the cabin!" Gem hissed. I glared at her through my pale blue eyes. "Gem you can't be here! Its too dangerous!" Gem merely waved my comment off. "I want to help! You know i won't leave." she argued. I sighed and looked at Jean for help, but he avoided my gaze pretending to find something else interesting. Dammit Jean...

                Gem grinned and put her hands together. "Then its settled! If i get into any trouble I know my sister will save me." she smiled. I nodded and motion her to follow me. " Stay close to me" i said as we left the HQ. Titans had already begun to enter the trost district. I would have stood in horror but I knew i had a responsibility to uphold as a soon to be Survey Corps. member. Gem lightly held onto my sleeve as we left to take down titans. Gem knew little of the basics but tried her best to catch up with everyone else. I looked around my squad and found three Titans closing in.

                While i was analyzing the best route, Gem had fallen too the ground. "Gem!" I shouted. Jean looked back at us with horror. "Get the others to safety!" i cried. Jean nodded and ordered the group to continue. The titans shifted their gaze to Gem and I dropped down too her side. Gem's legs were limp and her head had blood coming out from the side. "Sorry Kat, i used my gas too much." she smiled. I was starring at her mangled body thinking of the best possible way to get Gem away from the titans. 

                My heartbeat was too quick for comfort as i looked around for help. One of the three titans came closer, noticing Gem on the ground. A grin plastered on its face. No you bastard! I knew if i go after that titan the others would surely grab Gem before i could get to her. "Kat.." Gem cried. "You have to go. I can't rely on you to defeat all of them." she whispered. I held onto her hand tightly and shook my head. "No!" i shouted. "I promised mom i would protect you! i'm not going to leave you here..You should have just stayed..." i whispered. 

                I heard a soft thud and Jean was next to me. "Jean.."Gem said, "Please get Kat out of here...Hide from the titans.." Jean looked at me and then focused his gaze back to Gem. "Maybe we can carry you.." "We both know i'd slow the squad down.." Gem sighed. "big sister...You've been so strong, you protected me for years...but i already knew i wasnt going to make it today.." My eyes began to water as Gem looked at the titan just seconds away. "Jean take her now!" Gem shouted. Jean hesitated but hoisted my struggling body over his shoulder and brought me to a roof. 

                Gem looked relieved as we sat on the roof, Jean holding me back from running to Gem. The 14 meter titan made its way to Gem and picked her up in its filthy hands. NO! Gem! If i can't get to her now i will have failed my momther, i would have failed Gem. "Let me go!" i screamed. Jean struggled to keep me back. Visions of the years i spent with Gem flash through my mind. The times we ran in the garden with our Mama, the times i would fight the bullies away from her bruised body. I felt hot tears roll down my cheek as my heart broke at the thought of losing the last of my family. 

                I watched as the titan squeezed, every bone in Gem's body crushed as she screamed in agony. Gem's scream....I have to be there for her! I kicked Jean in the shin and wiggled my way out of his grasp. I activated my 3-dmg gear and hooked onto the back of the titan's neck. I slashed deeply into its neck deeply, sending it falling, but also releasing Gem. Jean had taken the opportunity to slash the other titans necks in one movement. Gem had fallen to ground, her body crushed, and limp. I ran clumsily towards her, my tears trailing behind me as i scream her name. "Gem!"

                I ran up to her body and leaned her against a building. "Gem, c'mon get up.Gem please, stop joking around." I frantically shook her body, hoping to wake her. "Kat.." she whispered. "Your fine Gem, your going to be okay.." I cried. Jean was standing behind me, head lowered. "Kat.."Gem called. "I'm here" i sobbed. "I-its not your...fault" she breathed "you protected...me as much as...you could" her voice became raspy. "I'm going to see Mama and Papa now.." she smiled faintly. I clutched her hand holding it while shutting my eyes hoping to stop the tear flow but i was unsuccessfull. 

                Gem placed her hand on my cheek, which was now cold. "Kat...Please smile for me.." she whispered. "I-I can't." i sobbed. "I want you...to smile for the times i know i can't...." My heart shattered a little at that comment. Gem can't smile anymore.."Gem..p-please..don't leave me.." I sobbed. Gem closed my hand around Papa's necklace, then placing it over  my heart. " You can find us here..." she whispered. "Kat...Mama and Papa are waiting for me." her gasp was shallow. "Gem, please stay with me.."I cried. "Mama and Papa are more beautiful than i imagined.." Gem whispered in awe.

                I looked at Gem, the color from her face was fading and her freckles stood out even more on her pale face. "Kat...smile please.."Gem whispered as she her dull eyes looked at me. I forced a smile as i layed her head on my lap. " I promise Gem...I promise.." i whipered. Gem smiled faintly. "Big sister.." she whimpered. "What is it Gem?" I choked. "I'm scared..." she whispered. Of course she was scared, she was on the verge of death, now being pulled to a better place with our parents to guide her. "I..love..y-you..Kat.." Gem whispered as her last breath had left her body.

                I stared at the now empty body of my beloved little sister. "Gem..." i whispered but my voice grew louder. "Gem!" Jean put his hand on my back as i clutched Gem's hand tighter, holding it to my chest as i cried, allowing my tears to fall onto her dead body. "GEM!" I sobbed. Her green eyes were lifeless as they stared off into space. "I love you too.." i whispered. "Gem i love you so much.." My body felt numb as Jean helped me up, my legs wouldnt move and the tears flowed out of my eyes, showing no sign of stopping. 

                Jean picked me up and carried me bridal style. I rested my head against his firm shoulder as he carried me to the rest of the group. Mama..Papa...I'm so sorry....Gem...I failed you...I couldn't save you in time..and now im dead, I'm alone....Please, forgive me...
