AoT SnK: (Jean x OC) Something worth fighting for

Chapter Nineteen

                The gallop from the horse would almost feel soothing, if it didn't move my arm with every step. The seering pain in my head hurt immensely, but resting it on Jean's chest made it almost bareble,Almost. I was grinding my teeth, keeping my self awake when our captain ordered us to stand in the trees. Our mission was to keep the titans out of the forest, at all cost. Jean had leaned me against the tree behind him as he stood alert on the thick branch. I glanced around and saw everyone standing alert, ready to strike when ordered to. 

                I had a firm grip on the tree's base, pulling myself to a standing position. I grabbed my sword with my good arm, and walked up behind Jean. "Kat what are you doing?!" he asked. "I can fight too, I am not going to be a burden anymore." I hissed back at him. I knew Jean was worried but I had a mission, and I'm sure as hell going to complete it. Jean looked at me with concern, wanting to say something but Armin interrupted him. "Are you sure you in a condition to fight Kat?" I nodded back at him and gave a brave smile. " I'm strong enough to keep a few titans from entering this lousy forest." 

                Jean stared at me before saying "At least lean on me for support, you look like you would tip over and fall off any second!" I smiled at him. Jean was doing his best to stay strong, but also watch over me. I keep ending up a burden for everyone....I want to be able to stand on my own two feet..I stood next to Jean and leaned against him for support. I watched the titans reach and claw for us, some titans began to climb up. One titan had climbed a little to close for comfort near Jean, Armin, and I.

                Jean and Armin were talking about the formation and what was really going on, but i didnt listen. Though i kept my self standing my vision would fade out then back in. I wasn't aware of my surroundings, and i was using all my energy to stay standing. The pain in my left ankle left it feeling numb, and I found myself grinding my teeth. I felt an arm wrap around my waist suddenly, carrying me through the air and set me down on a new branch. I could see Jean's face infront of me, calling my name, trying to snap me back into reality, but my body wouldn't respond. I groaned as the pain in my head took me back under into unconciousness.

                "Kat..Kat you have to wake up.." a familiar voice cooed. I opened my eyes, expecting to see Jean or Armin, instead I saw Gem looking down at me. "G-Gem?" i said with a raspy voice. "Kat, you have to wake up..please.." she whispered. "Am I dead?" I asked quietly. Gem smiled and shook her head. "No, but you need to wake up, there are people who need you right now. Go back to them." Gem brushed my bangs away from my face and  smiled. "Hurry Kat, Wake up. Kat please wake up.."

                Jean's voice overlapped with Gem's as he called out to me. "Kat, wake up, please.." My eyelids fluttered open, looking into Jean's hazel eyes that reflected my own pale blue eyes. "I'm awake.." I mumbled, slowly sitting up. Jean looked a little relieved but kept his serious face. "There was a shriek, now there is a horde of titans coming" he said grimly. My eyes widened and looked behind him. Sure enough, there was a horde, all running towards the forest. I panicked and tried to stand up, but fell back down. "Take it easy, your in no position to fight!" Jean shouted. 

                Jean was right, i wasn't in any condition to bring punishment to the titans, but I wasn't just going to sit and watch everyone. "I know I'm not! But im not going to just sit here and watch everyone else fight! Now either help me up or leave me alone. Either way I'm fighting. " I shouted. Jean had every right to look as pissed as he did right now, but I wasn't going to burden anyone more than i already have. Jean cursed under his breath and grabbed my good arm, gently lifting me up. I took my blade in my right hand and put my left blade in my mouth, biting onto it. 

                I noticed everyone looked at me, astonished. "I'm here to fight for humanity! and I'll do whatever it takes to stop these titans. So stop staring!" i yelled as i faced the oncoming horde of titans. The titans seemed to completely ignore us as the ran into the forest. "Don't let them through!" my commander yelled. Everyone charged after the titans, all determined to stop them. I jumped of the branch, ignoring the pain in my ankle, and activated my 3-dmg gear. A 10 meter titan was in my line of sight, completely ignoring the other soldiers. I shot a cable out to its neck, and glided after it. I hadn't thought of how i want to kill it till i was seconds away from its neck.

                Spin...I thought. I brought my right arm close to my chest, my blades only a foot apart. As i was closing in on the titan I pushed my body to spin clockwise. I bit onto my blade as it tore through it's skin. Blood splattered onto my face, burning as it dissapated into steam. The titan fell to the ground and i shot a cable out to the nearest branch i could find. Just that kill made my head feel like it was going to split in half. I slumped against the tree and watched helplessly as the titans pushed forward deeper into the forest. I couldn't stop them...Commander Erwin, forgive my helplessness. 

                Jean landed beside me, helping me up. My legs felt weak and wouldn't hold my body weight anymore. Jean decided to pick my limp body up, and use his manuever gear to reach his horse. "The commander has called for a retreat." he murmured. I looked up at Jean's face, affirming the fact that we had failed. My eyelids slowly shut from exhaustion, bringing me into a deep sleep as Jean held onto me. This time i wasn't waking up ever so often. Everything was just dark, and silent. I could almost believe i was dead.
