AoT SnK: (Jean x OC) Something worth fighting for

Chapter Fourteen

                I looked up at the wall where Commander Pixis called for their attention. They must have a plan to retake Trost. I thought. Jean, Annie, Bernard, Reiner and I went back with the other soldiers and waitied for our commands. Groups of soldiers were freaking out as Commander Pixis announced the plan to retake Trost, using Eren Yeager's titan powers. Many soldiers began to walk off, not wanting to die for a impossible mission. "I want to see my family!" some one yelled.

                Cowards..I sighed. I wonder if i would be a part of the frightened soldiers if i had my family? No..I thought. I would want to fight, and protect them from the horror these titans reek. Commander Pixis spoke up once again. "I pardon those who want to leave" he said. My eyes widened in shock, what was going through the Commander's head? I understood what he was doing when he went on about letting our families fear the titans. The soldiers began to turn around and listen to the Commander's plan.

                I couldnt help but feel excited as i found out we would reclaim the trost district. The Elite group would guide Eren to the boulder and protect him, while everyone else would distract the titans. Rose and I stood next to Jean as we looked  at the titans who clawed and reached for us but failed miserably. I clutched Jean's jacket sleeve, fighting the fear that lumped together in my throat.

                We spent half the day distracting titans on the wall before we moved to the ground. Rose and I were seperated into different groups, leaving me with Jean's troops. I stayed close behind Jean till we all split up. I was distracting a 4 meter titan till i reached the wall. I shot my cables as high as i could and landed ontop of the wall next to Connie and Annie. "Where is Jean?" I asked looking around for the tall boy with the undercut. Before Annie could answer me I saw Jean running from a titan. 

                "Why isn't he using his 3-dmg manuever gear?!" Connie shouted. I stood up ready to jump, but Connie grabbed my arm. "Kat! Don't be an idiot!" he shouted. I yanked my arm back "I'd rather be stupid and help Jean than watch him die!" I hissed. Marco came up behind Connie. "We aren't saying to leave him behind, but we need a plan." Marcoe whispered gently, calming me the tiniest bit. I looked away and nodded. Jean hold on, I'm coming...

                                                *Jean's POV*

                        I looked out the window to see the titan who has been chasing me come closer and closer to the building. "Dammit, I can't be the one who holds everyone back!" I turned to look out the other window and saw crushed body with a working manuevering gear. I just need to reach it quick enough..I'm just gonna have to take that chance, i have to return to everyone, to Kat...

                I burst out of the house and began to work on the harness that held the gear to the dead soldier. "C'mon!" i yelled tugging at the harness. I turned around and saw the titan creep closer. Dammit! I have to hurry! The titan was to close for comfort and i pulled on the harness in frustration. "Focus Jean!" Marco called behind me before distracting the titan. The titan turned and followed Marco giving me time to yank the harness off. I turned towards the sun and saw a figure slice through a titans neck before gently falling in the air, i could have mistaken it for an angel..

                                             *Kat's POV*

                I saw a 10 meter titan walk over to Jean, who was unaware. I jumped from one building to another then shot a cable out to the titan's neck. I slashed its neck violently before falling to the ground, the titans corpse steaming behind me. I saw Jean look at me with wide eyes.  I grinned back at him "Getting into trouble now? A little rare for Jean Kirschtein." I teased. Jean looked away and murmured "Shut up.." Everyone had a plan and I was to stick with Jean making sure he got to the wall safely.  After dodging titans we all landed on the  wall, everyone was safe, for now.

                I ran to Jean and hugged him tightly. "You're such and idiot Jean.." I murmured in his shoulder. The thought that i could have lost Jean to the titans too had struck me. Jean rubbed my back in a soothing notion. "Hey, I'm fine Kat. Don't get all emotional on me now" he teased. I released him and playfully punched his arm. "Oh shut it Jean." i smiled and wiped my eyes that had threatened to cry. Everyone looked up as a flare shot up into the sky. "Eren did it.." I whispered. Today humanity had successfully defended themselves against the titans. Mama, Papa, Gem, We did it!

               

                After recieving the news that we were successfull, everyone began to kill off the remaining titans. It took hours, with some casualties, but we finally emptied the Trost district of the titans. I had lost track of everyone as i went about slashing through titans. Papa's necklace hung loose around my neck, but somehow i felt a warmth come from it. Papa...We fought to protect the Trost district and succeeded. Are you proud? I thought. There was a small hope for all of the soldiers and citizens. I looked up at the now light orange sky with a sigh. I'm so exhausted...

                The sky made me peaceful, almost causing me to pass out from the exhaustion that grew as the day continued. This isnt the end though...Tomorrow would begin the clean up operation, where we would clean up the bodies that littered the city. My heart wrenched at the thought of the dead soldiers who gave their life to make our victory possible. Gem was among the people who had died for that cause. Oh Gem...If only i could have saved you...
