AoT SnK: (Jean x OC) Something worth fighting for

Chapter Eleven

                I curled my fingers in the fabric of Jean's jacket as he held onto me. My head rested against his left shoulder leaving a wet spot from my tears. Jean occassionally looked at me, my facial expression hadn't changed from my wide eyed shock expression. Gem's death played over and over in my head. I watched the color leave her face and her dark green eyes no longer holding any life inside them. I remembered how her hand felt so cold, i remember the sad smile she gave me before she passed. I remember it all..Even the scream of pain she gave as the titan crushed all her bones and shattered her organs. Gem's death was to soon and to fast..               

        Jean sighed with relief as we saw other soldiers ontop of a roof, upon closer inspection they looked..drained. Jean landed on the roof, still carrying me close. "What the hell happened to Kat?" Connie yelled walking over to us but Rose ran up and pushed him aside. "Move it baldy!" Rose hissed then grabbed me from Jean. Jean looked at me again before telling Connie everything. Rose had sat me down and tried to shake me back to reality but I couldnt stop the images of Gem replaying in my mind, over and over and over again..

                Rose sat with me gently informing me of everyone's situation. They called for a retreat but no one had enough gas to climb the wall. I used my gas up when i killed the titan that had crushed Gem...I must have responded in some way because Rose smiled a bit. Sasha was trying to get everyone together to try and reach HQ, but to no avail. Marco's eyes looked as if there is no hope within them what so ever. Mama, Papa, Gem, I really can't bring hope to humanity can i? I felt like crying but my eyes were dry, i was all cried out, no longer in pain. I just feel so numb..

                Jean had sat a bit ahead of me looking down at his shoes. I couldnt hear what he said before but i made out the last bit " Man, if i had known i would have told her.." he murmured. Jean...I wanted to walk up to him but my body was unresponsive. In my head i was in a dark room that played Mama, and Gem's death, showing every gruesome detail. This is a night mare....I thought and closed my eyes, leaning against Rose for support. When i had opened my eyes i was back in the meadow of flowers like i had been in my dream. 

                The flowers surrounding me were a plain white, my favorite color. I stood up looking at the pasty blue sky soaking in the sun i knew that wasnt really there. when i turned around i saw three figures smiling back at me. "Kat.." Gem who looked like how she was before she had been crushed by the titan. My eyes widened as i see Gem standing between Mama and Papa. I felt my feet moving forwards, just stopping infront of them. "y-your all dead.." i said. Clenching my fist around Papa's necklace that hung from my neck. Why am I dreaming now? Why remind me that im alone?

                Gem smiled and wrapped her arms around my neck. "I'm sorry for leaving you by yourself.." she said against my shoulder. My eyes stung but i wouldnt cry. I saw Mama smile and look me in the eyes. "Why am i dreaming about all of you right now?" i murmured. Mama had placed her hand on my arm. "Sweet heart this isnt a dream.." she smiled sadly. Papa spoke up next. "This is us saying goodbye." My eyes widened in shock. "y-you mean you all are?" i whispered. Gem laughed. "we're ghost silly" 

                Papa and Mama stood on the opposite sides of me. "Mama.." i said, choking back the tears. "You've grown upso much Kat, I'm so proud of you." Her words pierced my heart and was what brought my tears. "It's my fault Gem died, I couldnt keep her safe!" i cried hugging Gem tightly against me. "My dear you did everything you could for Gem. You've kept your promise." I felt Gem's tears fall down onto my shoulder. "I miss you Kat.."Gem whispered.I hugged Gem tighter as my response. "I miss you too Gem.." 

                Mama kissed my forehead as they all stood back. "Mama, Papa,Gem, am i going to die soon?" i asked. The dire situation we were in, I could be the next casualty. Papa answered me "Kat, You look so much like your mother, you have her gentleness, but you have my courage and determination. Thats what brought you here today." I wiped the tears away from my face and looked at my family. "I wanted to be the one who brings hope to humanity again, Papa, Mama, i wanted to avenge your deaths.." i cried. Papa put his hand on my head. "And you will kiddo, i know you will." "I believe in you Kat" Gem added. I nodded and watched as my family slowly began to fade away.

                "Kat, remember your promise five years ago.." Mama said. "Keep on smiling for all of us" Gem added. "Because we all love your smile" Papa finished. "I-I will, I swear, i'll avenge you guys, I will be the light humanity needs!" i said. I gave them my best salute, smiling as my tears rolled down my face. "We love you Kat.." Mama said as she completely faded away leaving Gem and Papa. "I'll always be with you" Papa said as he pointed at his wings of freedom necklace. Papa faded away with a smile leaving Gem and Me alone. "You got to fight Kat.." Gem said "I will Gem." I nodded. Gem smiled and waved as she vanished leaving me in the meadow. I lay down in the flowers and close my eyes, coming back to reality.

                "Kat!" Rose said surprised as i stood up.I stared at the group of soldiers who turned to look at me. "We have spent three years training to fight titans, and now you all sit down ready to give up because we dont have enough gas?" i shouted. Mikasa was behind me looking at everyone with calm eyes before she had walked infront of everyone. "I am stronger than all of you. Much stronger. If  you dont fight you die, If you win, you live." she finished. Then went off towards the HQ. I smiled at Jean who was looking at me. "If we die then we die for humanity. There's no better honor than that!" i shouted before running off after Mikasa. Everyone soon followed, now with a new spark of courage.

                Mikasa, Armin and  Connie were in the lead while Jean, Rose and i followed close behind. Mikasa was so fast, but i soon realized she was using too much gas. After i realized how much gas she was using, Mikasa had fallen. Armin and Connie going after her. Jean wanted to follow but Connie told him to lead the others. "Jean!" i called out. Jean looked at me then continued towards the HQ instead of going after Mikasa. Jean..Stay strong, We're almost there!

                We were so close to the HQ when everyone had stopped. We need an opening..I thought. My focus snapped to a soldier who had run out of gas with a titan close behind. Two soldiers jumped in after him to try and help. When all three were caught by titans, Jean stood there obviously deep in thought. I walked up to him, lacing my fingers between his. Jean turned and looked at me. "Jean, We need you now. Give us our orders." i whispered. Jean's hand tightened against mine before he relased my hand and shouted to the others.

                "This is our chance! Hurry lets go!" I nodded and followed closely behind him as we hurried to the HQ. Just minutes before we reached the HQ my gas ran out as i jumped from one building to another. "Dammit" i hissed. I kept running on the roof. Trying to keep up with the others. There was a huge gap between the HQ and the building i was on. Just jump! i thought. I ran full speed and lunged off the roof. I'm not going to make it! I thought as my body fell. I was so close...My eyes squeezed shut as i prepared to hit the ground, instead i felt strong arms scoop me up, holding my head close as we bust through a window. I made it...
