'Till Death Do Us Part

Proluge.

"You can't do this to them!" She screamed, struggling desperately against the guard's grip. Across from her, Newt and Minho we're struggling against the guard that restrained them. Teresa stood by, her hands clenched into fists and blinking hard, like she's trying to hold back emotion.

"Actually, I think we can." Janson sneered.

Newt twists and yanks at the guard's arms. "Get off me!" Newt shouted, kicking out, hard. The guard winced, but stood firm.

"One wrong move." Janson warned, standing, arms folded, in front of Newt and Minho. "And there will be consequences."

"You can't kill us!" Minho bit out. "You need us!"

"You're right, we can't kill you. But we can hurt you." He waved his hand to the guard holding Riley.
He nodded, and punched the young girl in the gut. Riley let out a shriek of pain, me doubled over, clutching her stomach where she'd been hit. Minho and Newt immediately stopped fighting, Minho reaching out for her.

"Good." Rat Man said, satisfied. "Time to say your goodbyes. You won't be seeing each other for around two years." He smiled, as if it was a good thing. "We'll leave you alone for five minutes." All of them knew they wouldn't be alone- they'd be waiting right outside the door. Rat Man gestured for the guards to follow him, and walked out, Teresa following, shooting the trio a sorrowful look over her shoulder. Minho glared at her. He never really trusted her.

"Sis." Minho mumbled, running towards Riley. He engulfed her in a hug, and she wrapped her arms around him likewise. "Be strong, yeah? I'll see you whenever."

"See you whenever." Riley muttered back, hugging him tightly. "I'll be fine."

"Right. You'll cry every night missing me, and you know it." He joked. "We'll get outta this, I swear it." He whispered in her ear. She nodded, her eyes filling with tears. He took a step back.

Riley ran forward to hug Newt. "See ya, Newtie." She knew the next time they would meet, they wouldn't know each other.

"See ya, Riles." He replied. "You won't forget me, will you?"

"That was the most ridiculous question I've ever heard. We're going to get our memories wiped, idiot." Riley sighed, rolling her eyes.

Newt punched her shoulder playfully. "You know what I mean. But seriously. You're my best friend, you know that, right?"

'And, unfortunately, nothing more.' A sad voice said in her head. "Right back at you." She said, instead. "Look after my brother, will you? Knowing him, he'll do something stupid." She chuckled.

"Heard that!" Minho shouted.

When the -mainly forced- laughter stopped, they all just looked at each other, lost in thought.

"C'mon, guys." Riley said, putting an arm around each boy and pulling them close. "It's all gonna be okay."

"Uh-huh." Minho said, rolling his eyes. As he did, Rat Man and the guards walked back in, this time with a scientist in tow.

"Alright, time's up!" Rat Man shouted. "Nurse, Guards, take the boys to get he injection." He pointed to another guard. "You. Take Riley out." The guards pulled the three away from each other.

As she was practically dragged out of the room, Riley let the tears come. They streamed down her face as the boys waved.

Newt stood there, a guard gripping his shoulders, tears welling in his eyes.

"See ya, Riles!" He called again. When the guard hauling Riley looked away, he mouthed, 'I won't forget you.'

Minho smiled a little. His smile wavered. He bit his lip, and had to turn away, his whole body shaking with silenced sobs.

A/N

If you hadn't already grasped it, Minho and Riley are brother and sister, and Minho and Newt are about to be thrown into the the Glade. And in case you were wondering, Minho and Riley don't look much alike in their colouring, but you can see it in their features. Riley's skin is paler than Minho's olive tone. She has auburn/reddish hair and blue eyes.
