Riley woke up to almost complete darkness, a faint glow in the distant being the only light source. Newt was beside her, his chest rising up and down slowly. His arms were wrapped around his chest, and he was shivering very slightly. Riley immediately felt bad about asking him to stay. She pulled the blanket off her and placed it over Newt's sleeping form.

He stirred slightly in his sleep, exhaling gently, and Riley held her breath until he had settled back down.

She climbed out the bed as quickly as she dared, wincing as the wooden floor creaked beneath her. She realised she hadn't changed to sleep, but decided it didn't matter, and knelt down to lace up the shoes she had pulled off the previous night. She took one last lingering look at Newt, and left, quietly closing the door behind her.

She made her way out of the homestead, stepping cautiously over sleeping bodies. She accidentally walked into someone, and jumped over the next person to avoid a kick in the leg, muttering a quick sorry before carrying on. She found herself standing before what had been pointed out to her as the box, staring at it, contemplating ways out.

"Hey." A voice said from behind her. She jumped, nearly stumbling, and whipped round to find Minho, arms folded.

"Oh, hey, Minho."

"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. Just wondering if you were okay?" He seemed genuinely concerned for her welfare.

"Why wouldn't I be?"

"You know, last night.." Minho said, his voice trailing off. He looked kind of tired, probably due to Riley screaming bloody murder half the night.

"Oh, right." Riley flustered. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just a nightmare. Thanks."

"Kay. Just checking up. Coming to get breakfast?"

"I need time to think. I'll be there in a few minutes."

Minho looked concerned, but shrugged. "Whatever. See you there." He turned and jogged away. She turned her attention back to the box.

There was definitely something about Minho. Definitely. She knew him from somewhere. The sarcasm, the voice, the way he walked, his hair, his eyes.. Just everything about him was so familiar.

But there was something more than that. It was like they had some strange sort of connection, in the least romantic way possible.

Like brother and sister.

She frowned at the thought, her eyebrows creasing together. Brother and sister?

Sighing, she sat down on the grass, plucking a piece and twirling it between her thumb and forefinger. She felt kind of stupid about last night. Way to make a first impression, right?

She could remember being told that first impressions count, but not who told her. Her parents, maybe? A teacher?

It made her head hurt just thinking about it.

She began contemplating how to get out of this maze. That was the whole point of what everyone did here? To find a way out? So they must've tried everything, if it had resulted in people actually going out into the maze.

She wondered about the fist person here. Did they have to wait a whole month for some company, or did they- whoever 'they' were- send up a load of people all at once? She made a mental note to ask Newt about that.

Newt. That boy was confusing. Her feelings towards him were mixed, but definitely there. How they made an appearance so fast, she didn't know. But what if they hadn't made a sudden arrival? What if they'd been there all along? What if she had a history with Newt?

"Hey."

Speak of the devil and he shall appear.

"Hey." Riley responded, staring at her slither of grass. "What's up?"

"Everything. You?"

"Same old." She smiled a little at their small talk, and Newt's smartass reply.

"You okay? I mean, after last night?"

A slow blush spread across her cheeks. Way to make things awkward, Newt. "Yeah, I'm fine. Thanks."

There was a long pause, before Newt finally said, "you wanna get some breakfast? I don't know about you, but I'm starving."

[THIS IS SO SHORT IM SO SORRY. And I know I haven't updated in like forever, but some stuffs been going on and I got kinda distracted. Plus I'm not sure on this story. Do you guys like it, or should I just scrap the idea? Opinions, anyone?
