"Riley, you okay?"
"Huh?" Riley's gaze snapped up from the ground, suddenly yanked back into reality by Newt's familiar voice.
"You've gone all pale. What's up?"
She rubbed her eyes. "Nothing, nothing. Just a bit out of it today. Lack of sleep, I guess."
Newt frowned. "You really sure? You look like you're gonna throw up."
Riley managed a faint smile. "Yeah, yeah, I'm totally fine."
"Good that." He returned his gaze to Thomas and Teresa. "So, Teresa- mind coming to the homestead with us? We kinda need to have a gathering 'bout all of this klunk."
Teresa shrugged. "Sure, whatever." Newt extended a hand to help her up, and she took it.
Riley walked at a slower pace than Newt, who strode out in front, Teresa beside him, and fell into step alongside Thomas. Riley sighed.
"You jealous or something?" Thomas asked, smirking a little as he nodded towards Newt and Teresa.
"Uh, excuse me?"
"Those two." Thomas lowered his voice. "You look kinda mad. And frustrated."
Riley sighed again, exhaling deeply. "Why would I be jealous of them?"
Thomas groaned. "And you were the one calling me oblivious not long ago. You guys, you and Newt."
Riley scratched the back of her neck. "Okay, maybe I have feelings for Newt. So what? He probably doesn't like me anyway. That night- we were all just really emotional and stuff, I guess. He just wants to get out of here, just like the rest of us. We're just friends."
"Well, 'just friends' don't go cuddling and having deep conversations all night, do they? He's totally into you." Thomas contemplated.
Riley snorted. "You do know you sound like a giggling teen gossiping in high school, right?"
Thomas cracked a smile. "Just saying."
"So, are you jealous?" Riley asked, playfully, not expecting an actual answer.
Thomas suddenly frowned. "I-I don't know. I mean, Teresa- she's nice. I guess so."
"Looks like we both want something we can't have, eh?" Riley said, sadness lacing her tone.
"Ah, I bet you and Newt will end up getting together." Thomas said.
Riley shrugged. "Who knows?"
"C'mon, slowpokes! We've got a gathering to get to!" Newt shouted over his shoulder.
I had a feeling this would be a long day.
