GW Hospital
Jackie returned to the Trauma Room, exactly 29 minutes before the news was announced. There was a television set in the room so they sat waiting for news.
Dr Howard came in and knew with the strong pressure of the situation, that he had to break it to them.
"Mr President, Mrs Kennedy" Dr Howard came in. Bobby and Ethel looked in desperation along with the First Couple. "Is he dead?" Jack cried. Dr Howard shook his head.
"No he isn't. You see, we have been able to remove all the bullets but they have caused severe damage. Two were fired into his chest but he will survive" Dr Howard heard them breathe a sigh of relief.
"However he has one broken rib, a broken arm and two broken legs".
To them it didn't sound bad until Dr Howard said that the bones were permanently shattered and he would need to have his legs amputated.
"When will he need them amputated?" Bobby asked. "Some time this week" Dr Howard finished before exiting the room. Amputated legs? It took them a while to take it in.
About two hours later, Clint came in. "Mr President, your children have been taken home with the Secret Service to the White House before being informed of your absence" Clint informed them. They nodded before Clint was dismissed.
Soon enough, they were allowed in to see Teddy. They were driven to shock when they saw him in bed with only half his legs. He explained the legs are being custom made and they'll be amputated tomorrow.
At least he'd be safe.
