Jackie's Room

Otis Air Force Base

Jackie was asleep but was woken by a knock. She woke up peacefully to see Jack's face looking in the window. He was smiling, she smiled but then grinned as he opened the door holding the hands of Caroline, John and Kick. Kick was only 1 year and 8 months but she understood and could walk too. "What's their names?" John-John asked.

Jackie pointed to the babies. She pointed to the one on the left. "The left one is Elizabeth and the right one is Joseph" Jackie introduced the twins to their older siblings. "Can vee call thum Joe and Liz?" Kick asked in her high-pitched voice. Jackie giggled and nodded. "Of course you can" Jack said from behind them.

12pm

Mrs Shaw had taken the kids to Jackie's private dining room for lunch, leaving the First Couple alone. "Jack when will I get home?" Jackie asked. She this time looked like she was desperate to go back to the White House more than ever.

"Tomorrow kid" Jack reassured her, caressing her hand. "Tomorrow". Jackie sighed with relief. "Thank God!" Jackie fell back into her pillow. Jack was worried. "Is something wrong kid?" Jack asked. Jackie nodded, this time crying. "I miss you" Jackie cried. These words touched Jack. "I miss you and the kids. Joe and Liz, are the only people that can make me stick it out here. I sob everytime I think of Marine One flying to Washington and being miles away from my husband and my family-" Jackie was sobbing and was interrupted.

"Kid" Jack came forward and kissed her. "I miss you too. I cry myself to sleep every night. Knowing your not next door, in bed, relaxed..." Jack began to cry. "It's living hell!" He shouted. Jackie gasped when  he shouted but to make herself feel better, she kissed her husband passionately.

When they broke apart, Jackie could see the wetness of Jack's shirt. There was wet, transparent lines on his face. He had been sobbing. Jackie dried the tears off his face with her hand. "Oh God" Jack sobbed, falling onto his wife's shoulder. He had stopped sobbing and this time, Jackie sobbed instead.

Jack placed his hand on her neck and held her into his chest. His shirt got warmer and then suddenly colder with tears. He buried his face in her hair and it began to get wet but Jackie couldn't care. They needed each other. And they knew it.
