I formed my arms in a X-shape as Joseph threw a few punches. My arms were definitely going to get bruises but this was an exam so I wasn't backing down. Not to mention this was also practice for the upcoming Superhero event that was approaching.
Every year, a different school which specializes in helping make future superheroes would hold a festival open to the public. It included normal festivities like open markets and the like but what made this different is that the students would show what they're made of. It's like a field day, if field day allowed the shedding of blood and beating others up, all within the legal guild lines, of course.
I stuck my leg out and Joseph stumbled. I took that chance to charge at him and pin him down. He struggled but eventually threw me off and I hopped back up, regaining composure.
"Time," Mr.Blade said. He held up his stopwatch and scribbled down some notes.
"Joseph-90%, Fable-87%."
"What? Why?" I asked. "I pinned him down for, like, five seconds. That must count for something."
Blade looked up at me and I fell silent. He looked back down at his clipboard and scribbled something else on his paper. I averted my eyes and sat down with Chance, Kody, and Luna.
Kody gave me a playful punch to the arm. "Come on, an 87% isn't that bad."
"Yeah, but how did Joseph score higher than me? I mean, I was doing way better than he was."
Joseph overheard me and walked up to us. "I don't think an 87 is going to kill you, Fae."
I smiled a not-so-friendly smile. "Says you. You still got a 90. But with a little more time, I would've beaten you."
He handed me my water bottle and I pulled the cap open with my teeth, my arms too tired to do such a tedious task. I took of the jacket that was a part of the winter athletics uniform and tossed it aside.
"Sure you would've," he teased. He walked back to his group and I grunted.
"Is it that cold that you're wearing another layer under your shirt?" Luna asked.
I looked down at the sleeves of my thermal that I wore under my gym tee-shirt and remembered all the scars that I've received over the years. I was not looking for that kind of attention.
"Yeah, I'm sensitive," I stated simply.
Liar. I glanced at Chance who wasn't looking at me but was smiling. I rose my eyebrows before looking over at the next fight. Zachary was stretching as Flynn was hydrating himself.
With Flynn water powers, he had an extreme disadvantage. Unless he had a trick up his sleeve, any water he would use would just turn to ice.
Mr.Blade took out his stopwatch and shouted "go!"
Immediately, Zachary propelled himself into the air using his ice and launched himself towards Flynn. But in the blink of an eye, he vanished. Everyone was on the edge of their seats as Zachary stood his ground, his eyes wandering back and forth.
Suddenly, Flynn appeared behind him and tackled him. Zachary was late to realize what was going on but managed to escape his grasp. He put his hand out, ready to create another pillar of dry ice.
I watched Flynn closely as he vanished suddenly again, into nothingness. Water surrounded where he once stood and quickly seeped into the ground. The puddle appeared behind Zach and he noticed.
He pointed downwards and incased the puddle in the ice block. We waited for a few seconds, but he didn't arise.
"Zachary, let Flynn out," Mr.Blade instructed. He did so and Flynn appeared out of nowhere, gasping for breath.
