Luna's POV

I sprinted through the hallways, Chance and Kodiak following closely behind. Axel was silent as he was leading the group to where he had last seen Fable.

I could see him occasionally touching the cheek where I had slapped hum earlier.

I woke up, drowsy and nauseated. I looked up at Axel, who was going through the nurse's medicine cabinet. I beckoned for him and he came to sit by me like a dog.

"Gosh, you took forever to wake up."

"How long has it been?"

He looked at the clock. "Like ten minutes."

I narrowed my eyes at him as I carefully lifted myself off the bed. Once I realized that I was not hurt, I walked over to where he was standing.

"What are you doing?"

"I was looking for something to wake you up," he explained. "I guess you don't need it, though."

I thought back to what had happened and gasped when I realized that we were one person short. "Fable?"

Axel crossed his arms and tilted his head towards the door. "She's still with that vampire. She didn't want to leave, it seemed."

"And you just left her there?"

He shrugged. "Well, yeah."

I raised my hand and struck him across the face. The slap wasn't strong enough to do any harm, but by the way his eyes widened, he certainly didn't see that coming. He lifted his hand to touch his cheek as the door slid open.

A small blond boy popped around the corner, adjusting his glasses as he stepped inside. "Did you just slap him?"

"Kodiak, what are you doing here?"

I saw Chance following closely behind him. He shut the door and made eye contact. "I mean, we should really be asking you that question. We saw you guys leave downstairs so we decided to look for you."

Axel stayed silent so I spoke up. "We need to find Fable. A vampire entered the school."

Chance's eyes widened at that statement. I could see his thumb trembling slightly, but I thought nothing of it. "A vampire?"

"Yeah," I replied. "We were just about to go look for her."

"I mean, we could help," Kodiak spoke up. "Since we're already here, we might as well."

"Okay, Axel will lead us to where we were," I spoke, looking at him.

He still wore a blank face as we followed him out the door.

"Okay, I think we're getting closer," I said, looking at the giant cracks in the windows. I could hear whispers from around the corner.

I hopped in front of Axel and stopped him. We stood silently in the hall as the sounds got louder.

"Oh, looks like we have friends."

I turned around with a glare before spotting the large, shadowy figure behind them.

"Is the vampire yours, Jason?" I asked, pointing in his direction.

"Yes, it's mine!" His reply was full of energy, which I confused to be innocuous for a second before realizing the setting we were in. He had an unfamiliar looking man standing beside  him and Fable in his arms. By the way her fingers twitched around his collar, she was struggling to get out of this situation.

I was so going to kill Axel once everything settled down.
