I wandered around the park for a bit after school. I couldn't go home. I felt like I would put Max in danger. They found out who I was and where I went to school pretty quick, no surprise there. But it would be best to stay out a bit, just in case they were following me.

Or maybe you're being paranoid.

I sighed and turned around on my heels.
"You're really having fun with that superpower of yours, aren't you?" I spoke.

Chance came out from around the fence. He waved his jazz hands and smiled, but the shaking of his hands could be seen as unintentional.

"Ya got me," he said, his voice trembling.

I bit my lip. I could tell he would be willing to put what happened aside, but I was making a big deal out of it. He just needed to say it. "Do you need to tell me something?"

His smile faded. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have came onto you like that."

I grabbed his hands. He looked at me, his face still saddened. His face was gut-wrenching, it made me feel guilty for something I didn't do.

"It's okay," I told him.

"You started crying," he said.

I squeezed his hands, thinking of an answer. "You know more than anyone the situation I'm in."

He squeezed back. "Something happened today, didn't it?"

I let go of him and took a step back. In silence, I felt him scanning my head. I wrapped my arms around myself, feeling how cold it was as I stood doing nothing. He closed his eyes and shook his head.

"This guy..."

I led him out of the park and at a bench in a secluded area just outside of it. We sat down, dropping our bags at our sides. The wind started to blow and I grabbed Chance's gloves hand with my bare one. He looked over at me and reached over to tuck my hair away from my face.

His eyes flickered to my lips and I tensed but he moved back. His sigh was almost inaudible but I could see it from the faint puff of smoke from his lips.

I moved my hand to his cheek and turned it so I could put my lips on his face. I don't know why I did that but it didn't faze him.

"You're confused, Fable."

I lowered my head, embarrassed. I put my head on his shoulder. "Doesn't mean you didn't want me to. Are we going to continue being this awkward?"

He put his arm around me. "Maybe, if you would just be straight about who you like at this point."

"Pfft, that's not happening. I can't get my life straight."

We stared out towards the pathway and noticed a figure passing by. They had an umbrella over their head, decorated with frills at the bottom. The top of the umbrella was sharp, the tall figure underneath it searching for something. It wasn't supposed to rain or snow and the sun was not anything unbearable either.

Chance slowly got up and waved for me to follow him. Confused, I walked up to him and we walked towards the exit to the park. Once we got out, Chance started pacing away and I ran to catch up to him.

"What was that?" I inquired.

He looked back and then to me. "That was a vampire. Have you not been catching up on the lessons?"

"Yes I have," I said.

Vampires, mermaids, avians, etcetera. They've all come to life within the last few decades, becoming so common they've separated themselves from the rest of humanity. Vampires mainly never came out during the day and didn't live so close to humans, so what was it doing here?
