I wrapped as much of my finger as I could around the rope binding my arms to the chair and tried to tug on the knot. I used my nails to try and loosen the rope but no luck. I threw my head back and looked over to the other side of the room where Robert was tearing apart the communicator box.
It was obviously not going to work on his part no matter how much he tried. He'd want to believe it's broken but really dad just won't talk to him.
As kids, I would always visit Robert and Ivy before I knew they were villains. Even then, Ivy was abusive and he wouldn't fight back. I would be the one to stand up for him and slowly her hatred started going from her son to me. The only thing that stopped her from doing anything to me was dad's authority and her obsession over him.
Still, he hated Maximus at the time because he was studying to be a hero. Dad didn't stop him, since they didn't really care about each other. He kept a close eye on me though.
I guess I didn't see Robert's growing attachment to me. Soon, he was clingy to the point I wouldn't want to come by anymore. He must have learned how I was feeling but that didn't stop him now.
I started bouncing up and down in my chair and the chair slightly jumped off the pavement. I started turning the chair to face Robert's back.
"Stop Fable," he spoke. I continued to shuffle the chair towards him. "Fable, quit it."
"No, just, uh give me a minute," I spoke as I continued to move towards him.
He spun his chair around and propped his head on his hand. "You wanna tell me how this damn box works?"
"That's the thing," I told him. "I don't know."
He put his foot on my seat to stop me from moving. I moved my head to the side so I didn't have to look at him. The pain of the bruises was still there but physical pain was better. Besides, a few bruises was nothing compared to the scars on my hands and knees from weeks before.
"Look, what's the point in keeping me here when it'll do no good for you," I tried to reason with him. "I'm just going to get in your way, like I've always have."
"You've never been in my way, Fable."
"Yeah?," I inquired. "It's must annoy you that I want to go to a hero academy even with my dad's face all over the Villain League. When my dad and your mom can't take care of it anymore, you're not next in line to be leader, someone else is because everyone knows you're pathetic. That'll you'll never be as good as your mom."
"I am good!," he yelled, gripping the sides of my chair. "I'm great! The best even! Tell me I'm the best Fable."
He shook my chair and I hit my head many times against the back of it. I took silent, quick breaths and I gestured for him to lean in. He did so and I whispered in his ear.
"You're good . . . But I'm better."
I finally got the knot on the back of the rope loose and slammed both of my hands against his face, dangerously close to his eyes.
He yelped and stumbled backwards. I took the opportunity to use my force to jump up in the hair and slam it back against the floor. The legs broke under my weight and the ropes tightened against my legs. I slipped out of the rope and ran towards him. He tried to grab my leg, thinking I was aiming for below his torso. As he did that, I rose my fist and I hit him in the cheek. It wasn't terribly strong but enough to tick him off.
He mimicked the same move and got me in the eye. I sustained a yell as I lost my balance. My leg moved on it's own and kicked Robert's legs. He fell over and I quickly grabbed a screwdriver from his desk and held him down using all my weight.
I held the screwdriver an inch from his eye and it widened in shock.
"Fable-"
"Shut up."
"Please don't do this."
I heard a whimper in his throat and almost laughed. This is pathetic, he thought just because I was tied to a chair he had the upper hand. Now that I'm not, he can't even believe it.
"I said shut it, Robert."
I got off him and he backed away from me. I leaned against his desk and looked at the box he had completely demolished. I felt my eyes burn and my thoughts go foggy and I groaned.
I pointed the tool at him again."I want to leave. And you're going to let me."
Our heavy breaths were the only thing echoing in the room.
He nodded. We went upstairs and I collected my bag and hoodie from the bedroom. Then, he led me back to the basement and opened the door downstairs.
I looked at the streets and felt myself start to sweat. Robert tried to put a hand on my shoulder but I showed him the screwdriver and he backed off.
"Bye," I spoke as I walked out the door.
I felt my eye where he had struck a punch earlier and winced. It was most likely going to swell but that wasn't important.
I went to the contacts on the phone and clicked the only one there was.
The phone rang a few times before a breathless voice started to speak.
"Fable!?""Chance," I said.
"I was so worried about you. What's going on?"
I sighed. "Chance, I can't take this anymore."
"What? Don't tell me you're going to-"
"That's a last resort Chance. No, I'm going to turn myself in."
