The only thing that was breaking silence at that moment was the ticking clock. It hung on the opposite side of the room where all the textbooks were lined in an orderly fashion. There were six rows of desks, the tall shadowy figure seated at the last one by the window.
I wouldn't take my eyes off the thing, not with Axel and Luna still out cold. I attempted talking to it but it didn't seem to speak English. Most vampires aren't native to English-speaking countries, anyways. It seemed to be in its own world, lost in thought.
I heard a groan from behind me and I allowed myself to peek over my shoulder, watching Axel slowly lifting himself to his feet. My eyes shifted from the shadow to Axel until I finally determined it was safe to focus my attention to him.
"You shit," was the first thing he said. Typical.
"Well, at least he didn't hurt you."
Axel looked down at where Luna was laying on the floor. He gently scooped her into his arms and looked at the vampire.
"How long has it been?"
"Not very long, but Luna is much smaller than us," I responded. "She might take a while gaining consciousness again." I looked at the vampire again. "And that guy isn't helping."
"Well, I'm going to take her to the infirmary and see if I can do something."
"Please don't," I pleaded. "If we woke up, so will she. And what if the villains find you? That wouldn't help so just stay put."
I tried to grab at his arm but his skin was scalding. I was surprised Luna hadn't woken from the immense heat.
"You're the one who wanted to let this dude inside in the first place. I have no reason to listen to you! If we stay in one placed, we're f-"
"Fucked?" I interrupt. "Gosh, I really don't like you. Fine, let's see if this dude let's you pass."
Axel slowly made his way to the door, at the side closest to the vampire. He wrapped around all the desks and finally squeezed past the large figure, nor bothering to shut the door behind him.
I guess the vampire finally thought of something because they shut the door themselves and glided over to the teacher's desk which I took refuge behind. They stretched out their long, slender fingers towards me and I cautiously looked at what he was holding.
It was a small, clear container with a purple tin lid.
I eyed the vampire before plucking the object from his bony fingers. "Is it a salve or...?"
I was just talking to myself at this point to fill the air.
I opened it and carefully placed my bruised fingers into it. There was a tingling sensation at my fingertips and my bruises were gone. My eyes shifted to the monster's glowing eyes.
"You did not spit in this container. I did not just put my fingers in your spit."
The glowing red circles narrowed into crescents, indicating the beast was smiling. I did not have enough energy to throw a fit so I gagged and slid the contents to the far edge of the table. It might come in handy later, though.
"Are you here for a reason?" I asked. "Or are you just here to tease me and exert your dominance or something? I wouldn't mind that, by the way, if you were hot and not a vampire."
Once again, I was met with silence. He was keeping me here. But for what reason?
I couldn't hear any commotion outside and the windows in this classroom gave no clear look of the outside. If the villains had massacred everyone in the school, I wouldn't have known.
Just as I thought that, I heard distinct chatter from the halls. It was getting louder until it was at the end of the door.
"Gosh, checking every classroom is excruciatingly painful."
Oh no.
A familiar head poked from the doorframe. I stared solemnly at his amber eyes.
"Jason."
The red head smiled. "Hey Fable."
