"Hi." I said with a smile.
"How was your first day of school?" Tom asked.
"It was fine. I've got a days worth of homework ." I replied. I patted the bed and Bobby jumped up to cuddle next to me. "How's work?"
"Busy. We might finish be the end of this week though, everyone is really pushing for it." He said.
"That's good. It'll be nice to have to you home sooner."
"Actually, that's why I'm calling." He paused and I felt my heart drop. "I was talking with an agent friend I have out here, and he's asked me to go to New York with him. He's caught wind of a couple off Broadway actors who are looking for agents, and he'd like my opinion."
"Oh. That's cool." I replied. I squeezed Bobby. "So when will you be home?"
"Depending on how things go, maybe three weeks from now. I think Marvel wants me to meet with them first, to flesh some things out." He said. "The Today Show also wants to interview me about our movie."
"Oh, alright." I said, wondering why I hadn't been asked.
"You'll be so busy with school, you wont even notice I'm gone." He said. "How's Bobby?"
"He's fine. He's right here, he misses you." I said.
"Give him snuggles from me. I've gotta go." He said quickly. "I'll try and call tomorrow."
He ended the call. I put my phone on the night stand and buried my face in Bobby, crying.
I woke up the next morning and let Bobby out while I had breakfast. After letting him back in, I went upstairs and got ready for the day. Bobby followed me as I moved around. When I settled myself in the office, he plopped down at my feet with a sigh.
I figured out how to hook my laptop to the printer and set to work on my homework. Rebel wandered in a couple hours later and jumped up on the desk, wanting my attention. Around three, I stopped, satisfied with what I'd accomplished. I sent a text to Ben telling him I'd be on my way over soon.
I went downstairs and let Bobby out quickly. I checked on his food bowl, then checked on Rebels. I filled the shared water dish before letting Bobby back in. He started tearing around the house, barking.
"Bobby, calm down." I said as he jumped up on me. "Stop!"
He started running the circle of the kitchen. Oh. Right. He was used to getting walked every day. Shit. I sent a message to Ben telling him I'd be over after walking the dog. I grabbed his leash and clipped it on.
"I'm sorry, bud. I'm not used to this." I said as I locked the back door. He tugged on the leash, he was ready to go.
We walked up and down the streets, he sniffed everything he could find. We took a turn around the park and headed back towards home. We were about halfway when a girl called out his name, stopping him dead in his tracks. He perked his ears and started pulling me. I had no clue who this girl was, and for a little dog, Bobby was strong.
"Bobby, heel!" I said firmly. He resisted and kept going. I yanked back on the leash, and he yipped, then went back to forcing his will. "Bobby!"
The girl started walking closer, a huge smile on her face.
"Hi, Bobby!" She said loudly as she approached. She kept her distance and looked up at me. "I'm Liza. I'm his groomer." She said. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a card. Bobby started whining. I took a couple steps closer and took the card from her. It looked like the one Tom had in his office. I handed it back to her with a smile.
