Of all the places Virgil applied for a job that were near his college, of course he had to end up at the one where he was required to prepare food for a bunch of strangers. He honestly didn't know why he applied for Subway, knowing what he'd have to do if he was accepted. Not only is the job stressful on the busy days, but it happens to be extremely boring on the slow days. He'd only done it because he was a poor college student in need of some way to make money, and that led to applying to every restaurant, convenience store, and fast food joint in the general vicinity.

As he headed into work for the morning, he remembered that his co-worker had quit over the weekend, meaning that there was going to be some newbie there that he'd most likely be in charge of showing the ropes to. Virgil headed into the restaurant with a heavy sigh, wanting to go back to his dorm and study for the exam he was having in one of his classes later.

He was greeted by an unfriendly sight. A young man in the same uniform as him behind the sub-bar, with slightly wavy brown hair and caramel colored eyes. It took him all of two seconds to recognize him as Roman Prince.

They were enemies, bickering in every class they shared, purposely shoulder checking each other in the hallways, openly insulting each other with each chance they got, and the worst part about it all, was that Virgil Black was madly in love with him. It didn't make any sense, and he was certain that it would never make any sense that someone who made him as angry as Roman did would by the person his heart desired, but he was. It wasn't as if he could tell him that though.

"Wow, what do you know? It's the boy who's stuck in 2006," Roman said, glaring at him as he dropped his back off in the back room and came out to join him behind the counter.

"It's way too early for your bullshit, Princey," Virgil bit back. "Can't you wait til past noon to start insulting me? Or are you extra bitchy today because your boyfriend wouldn't let you top last night?"

The other man's face flushed red, making him smirk triumphantly. It was always easy for him to find what pissed him off. "Excuse you, I don't have a boyfriend, and if I did, I'd always be on top," he said, crossing his arms. "If either one of us was going to be the bottom here, it would be you, Black."

"What? Why would I be a bottom?" the emo questioned, raising his eyebrows.

"PLEASE! Everything about you simply screams sub. You dress all dark and intimidating, but the second someone comes along to put you in your place, you'd be on your knees in seconds flat!" Roman explained, smirking as Virgil's face flushed red with anger as well. "I mean, you work at SUB-Way."

He sniffed and turned away, not in the mood. "Whatever, fuck you."

If you told Virgil Black two weeks ago that he'd end up becoming friends with Roman Prince, he'd have laughed in your face. They shared nothing in common; except, you know, love of Disney, talent for art, appreciation for Broadway, and many other things he'd never had a clue about until having actual discussions with him during their shifts together.

Gradually, their insults became more playful rather than aggressive, and their conversations actually became lengthy debates about the messages of Disney films or an agreement about JD's characterization being so much better in the musical rendition of Heathers than in the film.

It made Virgil fall for him more and realize what his heart had seen in the other man before his mind had been able to. The only problem was there was a slim chance Roman felt the same way.

This was what he thought at least, and he was proven wrong when he walked into work one particular morning. The date didn't typically have any meaning, but February 14th became a day to remember when he walked in to see Roman Prince standing there waiting for him with a black teddy bear, a heart full of chocolates, and a bouquet of dark red roses.

"I uh... I hope this doesn't screw things up between us cause we became friends and everything," he said, blushing furiously. "But I kinda... like you... romantically."

In the heat of the moment, Virgil Black attacked his mortal enemy Roman Prince... with his lips.
