When Virgil's having one of his anxious days, all the Sides feel compelled to do whatever they can to help him calm down. So when the darkly dressed Side came into the common room after having a panic attack, still trembling, Roman blurted out the first thing he could think of to calm him down.
"Hey Virge, you wanna paint my nails?" he said, sitting down next to him on the couch.
He looked up with wide eyes, his bottom lip quivering slightly. "You'd really let me?" he asked quietly. Roman's heart twisted at how small and scared he appeared; the anxious Side hadn't looked at him like that since their visit to his room a couple years ago now. He nodded with an encouraging smile. "T-Thank you..."
With a snap of Creativity's fingers, they had an assortment of nail polish in front of them and some nail polish remover if he made a mistake. "I'd prefer if you didn't use black unless it's for artwork, but do whatever you want," Roman said, holding his hands out.
Virgil nodded and gave him a tiny, grateful smile. He then reached for the hot red first and began the first coat on the prince's right hand. He watched as the strong smelling liquid coated his nails, smiling at the anxious Side's cute look of concentration on his face.
"What's going on in here?" a voice said, attracting their attention.
Logan was watching them with curious eyes as he reached up to adjust his glasses. The anxious Side just shrugged and went back to painting the other Side's nails.
"Virge, he uh- he had an attack, so he's painting my nails," Roman supplied, smiling warmly as he looked down at his hands.
His nails were bright red now and Virgil was putting that color down. With a snap of his fingers, the red polish was dry immediately. The anxious Side picked up a dark red and painted a stripe on each of the nails. Logan just watched it before deciding to sit down.
"If you'd like, Virgil, you may paint my nails as well," the logical Side offered.
He looked up and smiled a little, nodding to confirm. He finished Roman's nails after adding a gold crown to the thumbs.
The princely Side leapt to his feet, waving his nails around happily. "They're perfect! Thank you Virgil!! They're amazing!" he gushed. His excitement drew the attention of the other resident Side. He came into the common room with a confused and curious expression. "Patton! Look! Virgil did my nails!!"
"Oh my goodness! They're amazing!" the moral Side gasped, a bright grin stretching across his lips. "Are you going to paint Logan's too?"
He nodded, having already begun to paint the logical Side's nails with a deep blue polish. The thumbs remained blank until he was finished, then he grabbed a bottle of black and applied it. "I suppose you're planing to do a design of some sort on the thumbs?" Logan questioned.
"Y-Yeah... I was gonna put a little necktie on them," he said.
Patton gasped and clapped his hands giddily. "That sounds adorable! Hey Virge! Can you do mine next?"
He smiled and nodded to the moral Side as he used the black to make a diagonal line on each of the blue nails. When he was finished, he took a bright blue polish and skillfully painted a little necktie on each of his thumbs like he'd done with the crowns on Roman's.
"They're great," Logan praised as he admired them.
"Oh! Oh! Me next!!" Patton exclaimed, bouncing up and down as he sat next to the anxious Side. "I want them bright blue please! OH! And can you put a rainbow heart on my thumbs, please? That would be so cute!"
Virgil smiled and nodded at the moral Side, picking out the bright blue he'd need for the base. thirty minutes later, he too was flaunting his new nail art along with the other two Sides. They were all gushing over it when he spoke up. "Uh, thank you, guys... I was having a really rough morning cause of that panic attack, and that really helped," he said softly, smiling a little. "I don't really know how to thank you guys."
"I say you can thank us by letting us do your nails!" Roman suggested, grinning as he sat down beside him.
The other Sides agreed excitedly, making Virgil smile as he nodded, feeling thankful that he no longer had to suffer through his attacks alone. He had a family to help him, which was all he ever wanted.
