A/N: Okay, guys! This chapter includes the first ever fight scene I have ever written in my entire life, so please, tell me how it goes. Your opinions on it and how I can make it better. Thank you to all of you that have read this book and voted, you are giving me the motivation I need to write this book. Without your support, I would've given up ages ago, so thank you again! I'll leave A pic of Evrain's soul animal in the media. So please enjoy!
Chapter Eighteen
Aiden
We were preparing for an ambush because despite the energy spike being more promising than any other leads, it could've meant anything. The energy spike our machines picked up was located in some sort of ancient ruins place that looked like it was somewhere in the middle of Greece... but then again I wouldn't be surprised if it actually was.
My breath came out in clouds as I looked up at the dark sky. Everything was eerily quiet and everyone was on edge as we stalked carefully pass fallen pillars and scattered debris. Since my powers were activated, through my violet eyes, I was able to see even better in the dark. I was constantly scanning our surroundings because I'm sure I wasn't the only one who felt as if something just wasn't right.
Coming out here, Kadmos was almost positive that we had found the Heart, but the fact that there wasn't anyone or anything guarding the ruins threw us all off track. There weren't even the sounds of birds or insects. Just our boots crunching against the rocks and our breaths that we tried so hard to conceal. Like we were the only living beings there.
I fell into step with Kadmos, Evrain, and Cara, who seemed to be just as tense as everyone else... Well, except for Kadmos, but from the age of the guy, I wasn't really surprised.
"Where is this place?" I whispered to Kadmos as we paused in front of the ruins of a once magnificent palace, but only two walls were able to withstand the test of time and were left standing there, broken. There were three red pillars lining the outside, holding up the last of a broken ceiling, creating just enough of a shelter.
"This was once a great city called Knosis," Kadmos whispered as we neared the center of the ruins. "A city blooming with life... until Kronos destroyed it because the people refused to make a temple in his name."
I thought back to the vision I had of this place the night before we came... and oddly enough, I just saw the sky, just as it was that night. It was silent, but the type of silence that makes you uneasy like an unseen pressure pushing against my eardrums. Like everything was.... Holding its breath. As if waiting for chaos to erupt. I told Kadmos about it before we left, but he seemed unbothered by it, so I chose to ignore it myself.
In all honesty, I just wanted this to be over with so I could go back to Nick. Just imagining him laying in the hospital bed unable to get his revenge made me feel guilty. I knew how much he wanted to kill Ashton himself, but because of his fatigue, he wasn't in the right shape. But, I knew he was ready. It was kind of unnatural the rate at which he seemed to pick up on all of the moves I had taught him and improve on them himself. He even learned some techniques that I hadn't even taught him, and when I had asked about it, he simply said: "I saw it off a movie once."
"The energy is coming from there," Kadmos said suddenly, breaking me from my thoughts. Shit, I let my mind wander again. I had to stay focused. Kadmos was pointing towards the three red pillars, and when I looked closely, sure enough, I could see a faint red glow coming from something on the ground. "Stay alert, everyone."
Haewon and her three other sisters spread out. Haewon with her water controlling abilities, Jae Hwa wither her abilities to control nature, Ji Yoo with the ability to manipulate the air particles and Seo Yeon with her abilities to conjure and control fire. Together, they were basically invincible.
