Chapter Twenty

A/N: Heya guys, sorry for the delay, some more Uni stuff to sort out. Law books are expensive as fuck. But, this is quite a... different chapter I guess. Chapter Twenty

I had lost count on the number of days I had been trapped in that damp cell. All of my efforts to try and contact Aiden had been in vain, and I had realized that Ashton must've put some sort of block in my mind, and no matter how much I try to tear it down, I was only left disappointed.

Aiden will find me, I'd constantly chant to myself as if it were a holy mantra. He will find me.

But at times, a voice in my head will answer back. How can you be so sure? It would always say. They only want to use you, Nick. What will they do to you when you're no longer useful? Everyone just wants to use you. There is no one you can truly trust but yourself.

I forgot how long ago it was since Maree was moved out of her cell and put into a separate room. "Just in case you get any ideas." Ashton had said when I tried to protest. God, I felt so restless, sitting like a waiting duck, not knowing what everyone wanted me for. No one would tell me a fucking thing, and previously I must admit that I didn't mind, but now, it was driving me absolutely insane. I hated how everyone seemed to know more about my own powers than I did. Kadmos had promised to train me in using my powers properly, and that had been cut short because of my stupid decision and restlessness.

But despite me wallowing in self-pity, I knew that I had to find a way out before Ashton got what he needed because once he finished using me, I had no doubt that he would kill me without hesitation. Either that or I had to hope that Kadmos or Aiden- or anybody for that matter, was out there looking for me. But, I knew better than to get my hopes up. The voice in my head was right about one thing, no matter how much I was drawn towards Aiden, there was only one person I could fully rely on. Myself.

My thoughts were cut short as the rusty, heavy, metal door creaked open and Ashton walked through with a tray in hand. On the tray was a burger with fries and a soda. There was also a bowl of fresh mixed berries. Ashton had always insisted on bringing me meals personally because apparently, he didn't like the looks one of the guards was giving me. As always, I'd only eat half of the burger and demand that Ashton give the other half to Maree, especially since she only got essentially watered down soup and bread once a day.

"Come on, baby," he whispered, and I winced at the endearment. He reached through the bars to stroked cheek and I had to physically restrain myself from biting his fingers off. "You're getting skinnier. Believe it or not, but I care about you. Once all of this is over, I'll take good care of you. I promise."

"Give the rest to her," I spat out. "Or I will starve myself. And when I get out of here, and I will, and I don't see that she is healthy... I will kill you slowly, am I clear?"

Ashton sighed and gave the tray of my unfinished meal to one of the guards. "Give it to the girl," he hissed.

The big man hesitated. "But, boss-"

"Now! Why do I have to repeat myself?"

But when Ashton didn't leave, I narrowed my eyes suspiciously. Usually, after I insulted him enough, he'd leave, telling me how much he loved me and all that other bullshit. But he hesitated.
