Chapter Twenty-Two

The relief that I felt at that moment was so sweet, it almost brought tears to my eyes. It took a lot for me to not believe that I was dreaming, but no, Aiden was really there. For me. Me. I was too ashamed to admit but there was a part of me that was doubting that I would ever be found, and that was all due thanks to Ashton and his manipulative words. I shunned that part of me for ever having lost faith in Aiden.

But that excitement only lasted a mere second as it dawned on me... Maree was also l here too. And I was not going to leave her even if it killed me... after all... I was the reason that she was even there in the first place. Just her being friends with me had thrown her into all of my shit and I knew that no amount of apologies could make up for that.

In a split second, Aiden had teleported right in front of me, and his close proximity made my fingers twitch with the urge to touch him. So that I could truly believe that he was actually there, in front of me.

"Nick," Aiden whispered, his violet eyes roaming all over my face, drinking in every detail of my face, his eyes desperate and hungry. I did the exact same thing.

"Aiden," I whispered, embarrassingly close to a whimper. "But- how did-"

What I was going to say left my mind because before I could process anything, Aiden had pulled me close to his torso, hugging me so tight as if he wanted us to become one person. His head was buried in the crook of my neck, and I heard him whisper something over and over, but I was too out of my head to even catch a single word. When my head cleared, I noticed that he was whispering my name. Over and over, as if it were a holy mantra.

As much as I loved the situation, and no matter how much I wanted to stay like that, with Aiden's strong arms protecting me from all the evils of the world, I knew that Ashton was going to be in soon. It was almost due for my dinner, and Ashton had insisted on bringing my meal to me personally.

"Aiden," I whispered lightly, but his arms only tightened. "Aiden, we have to get Maree and get the fuck out of here before Ashton notices that I'm gone. I have a lot to tell you guys."

A low rumbled from his chest, but he reluctantly let go, looking down at me with such an intense gaze, I almost melted at his feet. "Okay," he said hesitantly, but I saw his finger twitch, an obvious restraint to keep his hands to himself... for the time being. I could already see his eyes flash violet as he prepared to teleport but I remembered the Power Suppressors in the hallways. Sure, Aiden could get in, but then he'd be trapped.

"Wait," I grabbed his arm suddenly, but it was too late. Already, I felt that familiar, weightless feeling I had always felt while teleporting, and before I knew it, we were in the middle of a familiar hallway. He must've teleported us as close to Maree as he could.
