The night was going both well and awkwardly. Honestly, you weren't feeling as bad as you had been expecting. You had imagined yourself curled in the corner, hissing at anyone that tried to approach you like a wild animal, but you were feeling quite comfortable right now. However, you were feeling major third wheel vibes.
"And then you know what he did? He stared her straight in the eyes and told her: "You won't ever catch me shopping here again. Have a good day, you wiener bucket!"," Steven laughed wholeheartedly, body bending in half and hand slapping the couch.
Mei giggled but you could tell from a mile away when she was faking a laugh. Looks like Steven wouldn't be lasting another week at this rate--this guy's sense of humour sucked ass.
"I'm gonna go grab a drink, you want anything?" Steven asked.
"I'll just have some water," Mei replied before turning to you. "You want anything?"
"No thanks," you said, then added under your breath, "No way would I drink anything from this guy. Who knows what kinda stuff he's on."
The moment Steven had left for the kitchen, Mei turned to you with an unimpressed expression.
"Mei, how the fuck did you find him cute exactly? Every time this guy decides to throw in one of his 'hilarious stories' I feel like I want to jump out the window over there," you complained, pointing to the window you were talking about.
"(Y/n), I swear, if I had known he was this...I don't even know what to call him. But if I had known he was like this I would've jumped on a plane to Antarctica before ever deciding to talk to him in that cafe," Mei said, dropping her face into her hands.
"And he's not the only thing bothering me. I'm getting bad feelings," you said.
Ever since you got here two hours ago, you would suddenly get the feeling that you were being watched but it would go away within the next five minutes. Then it would resurface another ten minutes later and the cycle would repeat itself. It was starting to put you on edge and you were really looking forward to finally leaving this party.
"Mei, are you--"
You didn't bother finishing your sentence when seeing your black-haired friend already in conversation with some random dude. The guy had taken Steven's spot and was doing a great job at capturing Mei's full attention. Why the hell did she let guys distract her so easily?
"Hey there, sweetness," a slurred voice said from your right.
You slowly turned your head to see a stranger leaning down next to you, left arm holding the back of the couch to keep him steady and face only inches away from yours. You could smell the stink of alcohol on his breath but that's not what you were worried about right now. The fact that he was so close to you is what had you shutting down and entering panic mode. You forced yourself to look straight ahead, hoping that by not giving him any reaction the bugger would leave.
"I noticed you sitting here the whole night. Haven't really been talkin' much, huh?" he drawled.
The guy suddenly moved the slightest bit closer, lips practically grazing your ear. Your body couldn't move, everything around you faded to a quiet buzz and when the guy began speaking more his voice sounded muddled as if he was talking underwater. The only thing you could hear was the pounding of your heart, slowly increasing with each passing second, and your laboured breaths. Your eyes weren't able to focus on anything and you noticed everything starting to turn blurry.
The life was shocked back into you when you felt a hand grab your forearm. Looking down, you noticed it was the stranger that had made the contact.
