As Cas moved away to college he finally came into terms with his own sexuality. Although he could never tell anyone, he himself had come to terms with being bisexual. And he now realized he was truly in love with Dean all along.
Dean had called him apologizing for how he treated him and explained how it was all out of fear of his own feelings. Although Dean was in love with Cas, he could never admit it. It was hard for Cas to accept that they couldn't be together, but he received the closure he needed.
They didn't talk much after that, but Cas knew he could never forget his first love. And maybe someday, they'd reunite and things would be different.
