Brooklyn POV
I wonder if the perspective of the chaser can fathom the fear of the chased. For in this need to escape my head and heart go to the place that is crushed and without light or match to bring a comforting spark. As I ran incessantly, I started to feel enervated but I couldn't stop, not now.
I feel the screaming of my lungs and the will of my muscles to go far beyond what exercise could ever demand. I'm sure by now he was running after me. A little kick wouldn't do him much harm.
Being chased was nothing like the movies. The actors look heroic, sexy, and in command of the situation. This was far removed from the pretty version of running to save your life. Now my heart beats like it means to explode and my mind is a scattered mess.
_______________
I lived with my mom and my bothersome older brother. I loved going to parties and having a good time but of course, I kept my grades up. I agreed to go to my friend's home to hang out with some of his friends. I'm so excited. (note the sarcasm). I quickly took a bath and added a sparse amount of makeup.
I took my BMW i8 and drove to my best friend's house while listening to Do It by Chloe and Halle. It took about one hour to arrive because we were going to his cabin that he owned that was at the edge of a forest. My parents were not at home since they had a business trip to attend to in Orlando and my elder brother Jack was at Harvard Medical School. Hence, I was beyond lucky to be going to Ben's house right now.
When I arrived by the front door, I pressed the doorbell. Tyler immediately opened the door and welcomed me in. I walked inside the cabin and into the living room with Ben trailing behind me. I was greeted by the worst people I could ever imagine. "Like since when did Tyler start to hang out with these losers," I thought.
Tyler and I have been friends since diapers. When we met, we just clicked. Ever since then we were pretty much always seen together, it's kind of like we were attached by the hip.
"This is the people you hang out with when I'm not around?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Yeah, their cool." He answered back shrugging his shoulders.
"Like if," I said in my mind. I reluctantly sat on one of the lounges in the living room trying to glare a hole in Xiomara's head like there was no tomorrow. I didn't like her then and I won't like her now.
"So, there is this deserted hospital about a few miles away from here, I heard that there was something strange going on there and a lot of money could be involved, so we're going to check it out," Tyler said confidently.
Was he crazy? No way in hell was I going to go to a deserted hospital. I'm too young to die.
"I am not going anywhere" I replied getting up ready to go back home. I think I can find something else to do rather than go into an abandoned building. Maybe I can get some food, pizza. I could get my nails done. Oh, and I could go shopping then be the wonderful sister I am and visit my brother. I could pester the heck outa him until he kicks me out.
Almost everyone in the room looked like they all agreed with me. I don't know what kind of idea Tyler thought this was but I am not going to be a part of it especially with these people, Xiomara thinks she is queen bee and that everyone under her level is a hobo, Lucas is so stuck up and ignorant his ego is as big as his head and as tall as Burj Khalifa.
I now began to wonder why on earth Tyler even invited Xiomara.
"Come on guys it wouldn't be so bad I'm sure they're probably really isn't anything near that building, plus there's a lot of money involved we could be filthy rich, I'm sure you all are curious to what's even in there."
I mean Tyler is right, and who knows what's in there, I could finally be able to get a well-earned vacation, I mean my parents have money but it isn't mine plus I am curious now that he mentioned it.
"Are you all up for it?" he inquired unsure of what we might say.
We all nodded at him making him know that we would do it.
"If only one of my nails gets chipped, I'm suing" Xiomara bolted out. What? She knows that won't exactly work outright.
I guess she's just stupid like that. Or her parents might find a way to sue us. Either way, it'll still be stupid.
I watched Tyler questioningly as to why he would even invite her, and like the best friend he is he read me like a book and mouthed that she forced him.
I laughed internally knowing that if she forced him, the only reason she did that was because of Lucas. I don't know what all those girls see in Lucas he isn't at all attractive and he's all brawn no brain. I don't have a great history with Jocks so I don't like being anywhere near them.
They are all jerks and they will continue to be for their entire life.
