Brooklyn

When I finally decided that it was enough crying, I removed my head from Yori's shoulder and wiped my eyes. Everyone was still near me concerned that something was wrong.

"Brooklyn, what's going on, are you alright?"

I breathed in preparing myself for what I was going to tell them.

"If we don't leave this building tonight, we are all going to die."

"What madness are you talking about Brooklyn, are you out of your mind!" Xiomara shouted

"Keep your voice down Xiomara, I'm telling the truth. When everyone passed out in the second challenge, I woke up in a hospital bed. Esmerelda and this man called Victor were in the room speaking. They stated what happened to us yesterday was our body rejecting the serum that they gave to us days ago. They said that it wouldn't make sense to try it out again and they couldn't risk us telling people about what they are doing so they decided to just kill us."

"Did they say when?" Xander replied

"Tomorrow at three a.m. in the morning."

The shock was evident on everyone's face. Tomorrow is not the answer they were expecting and neither was I. Just for a moment they were at a loss for words.

"We need to make a plan or else we would never escape this place," I said to them.

"Okay, so everyone will go to sleep tonight so they wouldn't be suspicious. I'm sure there's a camera in this room along with every other corner of this building. We will wake up by midnight when everyone is asleep. Finding our way out of this building is our top priority but we can't leave the others behind so as soon as we are out of here, we will go get them. It's us against time."

" No, it's the race against time."

After we talked about the plan, we all went to bed. It was quite hard for me to fall asleep right now since I felt so anxious. If we didn't get out of here in time, we would all be dead in an instant and that is what I am most afraid of, death.

I haven't seen my brother nor my parent's faces in days, not even through a phone call and I miss them already. If I died, I'll never see them again, and neither will they.

To calm me down I try to tell myself that the fear is simply brain chemicals, my amygdala pinged, and then I try to analyze the situation as I may without it. I try to imagine it from the outside as if it were a book and not real life. Then I ask myself what my "character" should do.

I need the sleep right now for the events that are going to happen in just a few hours so I need to sleep. I need to try to think positively. I'll be with my family soon when all this is over, I'm not going to die, I'm going to live a happy life.

I try telling myself all these positive things to calm my brain and it actually worked because in two twos I fell asleep.

I wake as if it's an emergency as if sleeping had become a dangerous thing. Waking up today is no longer a pleasure, it was because it was midnight now and Xander and Lucas were waking everyone up.

I stood up and stretched my limbs cracking a few bones in my legs and hands. I would admit that I am tired but I can't be because we are going to escape this building once and for all.

Once everyone was awake and ready to leave, we quietly walked by the door to open it but when Xander turned the knob it wouldn't budge because it was locked from the outside.

"Can't we just kick the door down or something," Xiomara said.

"If we kick the door down it will cause a lot of noise and they'll know that we're trying to escape. We have to think of something quieter." Xander replied.

"How about we pick the lock. Brooklyn is quite experienced in picking locks I might say"

I chuckled at Tyler's statement; he knew me too well.

"But sadly, I don't have a hairpin."

"I do."

Xiomara took a hairpin out of her hair and passed it for me. I applied constant rotational pressure to the tumbler so that as I pick one pin, it will stay in the unlocked position. It goes down the line of pins and I push up on the one that is currently stuck. I knew that one pin was picked when I heard a clicking noise. I did the process to all the pins and the door was now unlocked.

Before I twisted the doorknob, I heard a mechanical noise of a camera turning.

"Guys, get on the ground now."

Everyone followed my instructions and dropped to the ground as quickly as possible. I forgot that there was a camera in here. We need to cover it because I'm pretty sure that it could see clearly at night.

"It is urgent that we cover the camera on the wall, or they'll see us. But when we cover the camera we need to move quickly because the person behind the camera will soon realize that he can't see anything from in this room."

"I'll cover the camera" Tyler stated.

He slowly crept on the ground towards one of the double-deck beds. The camera was right next to the bed so he had to climb the ladder and cover it. Tyler slowly raised making sure he was still hidden and climbed the ladder. He held on to the ladder with one hand and took off the pillowcase from one of the pillows on the bed and dropped it over the camera blocking the lens.

He climbed down the ladder and came back to where we were. All of us rose from the floor and stood in front of the door. I once again turned the door kob and it opened.

I made Xander take the lead from here. Separating we walked down the corridor trying every door to see which room the other people were inside. It's been 2 hours since we woke up so we only have one hour left to find them. This building was huge but I doubt that they'll be far away from where we were.

As we turned the corner, we saw three guards standing in the hallway. I along with everyone else made a hard U-turn.

"What on earth are we going to do now."

"I have no idea what so ever."
