The Race Against Time

Chapter 3

Brooklyn

I watched it on the ground by the door and saw a little piece of paper. Slowly I walked towards it cautiously looking around then swiftly picked it up.

"Everyone looks at this."

They all gathered around me and I read the note out loud.

I turned the paper over and saw more writing.

You all are next

Our eyes grew wide.

"WHY DID YOU MAKE US DO THIS TYLER!!!"I yelled. "Now a psychopath is watching us."

"WHAT WERE YOU THINKING! "Lucas exclaimed.

"We are all going to die," Xiomara replied dramatically.

"It was you guys who agreed to do this." Tyler began. "Stop bickering and let's just try to get out of this filthy, horror of a hospital."

Everyone stopped quarreling and we began to trek down the vacant hallway unaware of where we were even going.

Lucas came by my side and asked if I was okay. I silently nodded and walked faster to come in line with my friend Tyler. I'm sure that's how he tries to get all the girls. He's such a jerk.

I watched Xiomara eyeing me and mouthing he's mine but I completely ignored her. I don't have time to be petty with anyone, especially her, I didn't even like Lucas. We were walking aimlessly, not know where we were going. The hospital was a six-story building and if there was someone in here wanting to capture us then we are so dead. Lucas suddenly stopped and shouted that he found a map of the building on the wall.

"Finally," Xiomara exasperatingly uttered.

Lucas spotted an exit on the floor we were on. We quickly followed him to the exit in hopes that we were finally going to get out of here without having to go through the entire building. Lucas tried opening the door but it was locked.

" Trying to get out, let's see about that."

Our eyes opened wider than ever before. Fear emanated from my body.

"Guys we need to go like right now. "I insisted.

They all nodded their head and we watched around to see where we could go, but it was a dead-end so we had no choice but to try to go through another door. We spotted a door right in a hallway next to a staircase.

I took my hairpin and picked the lock. It was easy lemon squeezy mostly because I do it all the time when I tried to get into my older brother Jack's room.

"Cool," Lucas said right after I picked the lock.

They began walking in right after me.

All of a sudden, I tripped on something and was going to fall into the floor. That's right IN the floor. There was a big hole in the floor right in front of me. When Lucas saw what was taking place, he immediately ran over to me before I fell and grabbed my hand, preventing me from falling.

I was caught so off guard that I felt like all the air was just knocked out of me.

With all his strength he pulled me up out of the hole. Tyler then came running by my side asking me if I was ok. I saw Lucas staring at me into my soul so trying not to sound or do anything awkward I just told him to thank you a dusted my clothes off and got myself back together.

Xiomara eyed me and slowly approached whispering in my ears

"Don't forget Brooklyn he's mine."

Who did she think she was she didn't rule me? And even if I liked Lucas, I wasn't going to stay away from him just because she told me to. I don't know who she thought she was but she wasn't going to rule me.

When we were finished making sure everything was ok.

Lucas interrupted, "A-am guys I think there's a problem." When we watched across the room a horrible sight caught our eyes.

A girl was sitting on a chair tied up to it. She looked exhausted. Perspiration covered her entire body. A man with a mask on was in the back of her with a gun in his hands.

I went closer to Tyler so I wouldn't feel scared. The masked man roughly said," Come to me the easy way or the hard way or you won't get punished as she did, I don't want to do this the hard way so just slowly come to me."

We all shook our heads showing him none of us was going with him. Slowly we began to walk towards the door when he said, "Take one more step or I'll shoot the girl."

We all made a sudden stop; tears were evident in my eyes. He started to take steps away from the girl and towards us. He stopped right in front of me. He took my hair in his hands and said, "You're a pretty one how about we take you first?"

"Hands off her "Tyler replied. The man let go of my hair and punched Tyler in his face making me flinch.

"Don't test me little boy remember I'm the one with the gun."

Tyler did not move an inch. The man returned his gaze on me and roughly pulled me towards him, there was no space between us. He whispered, "Don't worry I'll take all of you to my boss safely if you all just cooperate." I began to sob uncontrollably when all of a sudden, the man fell to the floor.

Lucas knocked him out with a glass bottle and embraced me in a hug and rubbed my back making imaginary circles. It was only then that I realized I was hugging Lucas so I quickly pulled away.

Tyler was across the room untying the girl's hands and feet. Lucas ran over and was helping him untie the girl when Xiomara came behind me and said," He should have taken you; you would have been out of the picture once and for all."

I wanted to say something to her but I wanted to be the mature one so I just ignored her.

"Cat got your tongue huh, well gone or not I'm still getting Lucas."

Can't she just understand that I don't like Lucas? With that, I just rolled my eyes and continued to ignore her.

A minute after the two boys came back with the girl in their arms stabling her making sure she had enough strength to walk.

"Come on we need to go before he wakes up again," I said urgently.

We all hurried through the door and locked it never looking back.
