The Race Against Time

chapter 14

The tall slender woman that walked through the door held a wide smile on her face while she inspected us from top to bottom. Not the other group but mainly us and I surely know why.

"Well hello, my name is Esmerelda, and some of you may be wondering what you're doing here? I am the leader of an organization called E.H.B and our goal is to enhance humans in the best way possible and we have invited 6 of you to test our latest creation"

What on earth did she mean invited us, we were about to get butchered like two days ago and who said I was going to let her test something on me that I know nothing about. Is this woman crazy? She pulled out a miniature test tube filled with some kind of jaundiced-looking liquid from a pocket in her dress

"This substance inside of this test tube is supposed to enhance your abilities and senses such as strength, enhanced hearing and vision, speed and indestructibility. Not all of you will have the same abilities and some of you might not have any that is why we are testing it to see how your bodies will react to it.Some of you in this room however doesn't know what they get by doing this. Ten thousand dollars will be given to you if you agree to taking what is in this tube, you will be staying on this island for about two weeks so that we can run a series of tests to see the results.

"Damm, that a hell lot of money," Yori whispered in my ears.

"Sure is.''

With all that money I could do so many things. My mindset at first was completely changed now. Lucas, Tyler, and Xiomara looked just about ready to do anything for the money the woman was offering. However, Xander on the other hand didn't look too fond of the idea, he looked at the woman suspiciously. I don't know what was his problem but I'll do anything for that kind of money and I know the rest of us would too.

I was still baffled though as to how we got here and who were those men after us when we were at the hospital.

"Follow me."

The woman along with her bodyguards walked out of the room guiding us to where we should go. We all followed the woman out of the room and walked straight down the wide and spacious corridor of the building. After we took some lefts and rights, we arrived in front of a door that the woman opened with keys and ushered us in. The area was huge, there were couches, chairs, and tables everywhere to sit down on and there were shelves with games and books on them. I liked what I saw so far, to be honest.

"Feel free to sit anywhere and get comfortable, we will be calling you all in one by one to get the shot."

I sat on the couch in a corner of a room and Xander, Tyler, Lucas, Xiomara, and Yori followed suit and sat in front of me or beside me.

"What is going on here?" Xiomara muttered.

"I have no clue, but money is involved so who cares," Yori said answering her back.

"Come on we still don't know how on earth we got here, isn't that suspicious?"

"I agree with Xiomara, I work with the police for almost a year now and I have never heard of that organization before," Xander muttered

"It's probably a new one, and I'm sure if we ask Esmerelda, she'll have an answer for us, come on, we have had enough troubles these past few days," I answered.

There was total silence from then on. Neither one of us talked to each other, we were all too caught up in our thoughts.

I was pretty sure all Yori was thinking about was the money just by seeing that satisfied smug look on her face.

She did surprise me though because the first time we met her she was so quiet but now since she spent some time with us, she solely spoke her mind and was quite confident. I'm sure Xiomara and her were not getting along well. But who cares, Xiomara deserves everything bad coming towards her after she tried to push me off a building to my death just so she could get rid of me and have Lucas for herself.

After about 15 mins a man came into the room and announced that we would be getting the shots now. I was quite curious as to how it would work so I volunteered to go first. The man escorted me to a room with a chair to sit on and there was a table next to the chair with syringes. The woman we saw earlier was in the room along with a man dresses in a long blue coverall with gloves.

I sat on the chair feeling just a tad bit nervous to get the shot. The man prepared the liquid and took the syringe and sucked up all the liquid in the tube. The syringe was nearing my arm, it was about 2 iotas away.

"Wait!"

I needed the woman to answer my question before I took the shot.

"How did we get here? We were falling off a building and just as I thought I would have hit the ground I ended up here."

"We'll let's just say we made something that no other has ever been successful in doing, I can't tell you everything now but when your testing is over, we will explain it fully with all of you."

That wasn't the answer I wanted to hear from here because it made me even more curious but I'll believe what she said for now. The man then finished what he started and injected me with the liquid. There was this burning sensation I felt as the liquid entered my veins but that's pretty much how all injections are.

After I was sent back to the room one by one everyone went into the same room I did and got their shot. They mentioned that we would all sleep here for the rest of the night and tomorrow the tests would commence.

There were bunk beds at the back of the room for us to sleep in. I slept at the bottom and Tyler was above me, In the next bed Yori slept on top and Xander was below, and in the last bed that all six of us slept on Xiomara was below and Lucas was above. Therefore, the last three bunk beds were accommodated by the other six people taking the test with us. The lights were off and we all got comfortable in our temporary beds and went to sleep. Somehow, I couldn't sleep just yet. Even after a long day, I didn't feel tired. I glanced at Xander sleeping in the bunk bed right next to mine.

My goodness, why was he so hot.

The only thing pushing me away from him was his horrible attitude, he was ignorant and only cared about himself.

I just can't handle him. I watched his face again only to see or of his eyes opened looking straight at me. When I tell you my heart started racing, I quickly squeezed my eyes shut. he caught me staring.
