Ok so here is chapter 1 i thought you might want the first chapter too :P
Chapter 1
“I hate you!” Tessa screamed at me. I scowled and jumped when she slammed her door. Of course she hated me. Banning her from going to a party with alcohol was not the worst of my teenage daughter’s problems. I wasn’t happy with her because her grades were failing. The phone rang then and I sighed before walking over to answer it.
“Hello” I asked running a hand through my hair
“Hey honey” I sighed before closing my eyes
“Hi James” I said frowning and leaning back against the wall
“How is everything?” he asked
“Good. Tessa is driving me nuts!” I said feeling annoyed
“I can hear you!” she screamed
“GOOD!” I yelled back. I heard her frustrated scream and grabbed a small photo next to the phone of Tessa when she was ten. She was sitting on my knee. Her big smile and happy eyes matched my own. I sighed and heard James laugh.
“Wow you two need some quality time apart” he said
“She is pissed because I refuse to let her go to an alcohol fuelled party” I said looking down the hall at her closed door
“She just wants to fit in”
‘She is fifteen years old she doesn’t need to fit in yet” I said frowning again
“Soph... every single girl needs to fit in at one point. Girls start standing out when they reach their teens” he explained
“I never fit in with the girls when I was in school” I said scowling.
“No but you fit in with guys” he said sighing. I nodded and then groaned
“I am not letting her go to that party. She is acting up”
“Maybe you should take her away from it all” when he said that I felt a pang of unease settle on me. I needed to take her home. I felt the guilt like a punch in the gut. I bet Taylor hated me now and so did Suzie. I only talked to Jaime once a week and when Tessa turned seven I met James. He was a student at uni and he and I instantly clicked. We were close friends and we even dated but I couldn't commit for some unknown reason. So now we were just good friends.
“Soph? You still there?” he asked
“Yup just thinking”
“Look I have to go but consider my option” he said before hanging up. I hung up and let the thoughts drifted through my mind. James was right. I needed to take her somewhere away from it all. But then I remembered how I ran from every problem in my life. When I heard another girl’s voice on Dex’s phone- I ran, when Taylor said he loved me- I ran, when Taylor proposed- I ran. I was a runner and it made me nervous. But I needed to get Tessa somewhere different. I slowly walked towards Tessa’s room. I knocked and her answer was to throw something at the door. I scowled and opened the door
“That is enough of the attitude! I am so sick of your rebellious attitude” I snapped. She scowled
“Why can’t I go?” she demanded
“Look I had you when I was seventeen. I... I was drunk and ended up losing my virginity without remembering. I don't want you to do something you will later regret”
‘Oh so I’m a mistake that you regret!” she snapped. I saw tears in her eyes
“Aw baby no” I said hugging her close to me. she wrapped her arms around me and sobbed “You were the one thing in this world that I do not and will not regret” I said kissing the top of her head. she sighed and wiped her eyes
“I’m sorry. I love you” she whispered
“I love you too mia Bella Figlia” I said back to her
“Mum don't speak to me in Italian you aren’t even Italian” she said laughing
“Believe it or not but I am part Italian and part Spanish” I told her. “I didn't come here to discuss my heritage. I came here to ask you a question” I said softly to her.
“Sure” she whispered
“I think we need to get away for now. I think we need to go home” I said softly
“Home? to Spain or Italy?” she asked sceptically.
“No to Western Australia. Believe it or not but I moved here when you were about a year and a half” I said to her. She frowned
“Where will we stay?”
“With uncle Jaime” I said smiling. I just had to ring him and ask.
“Ok... sounds good” She said frowning a little. I smiled and got up before blowing her a kiss and getting the phone.
It rang a few times before he answered
“Hello?”
“Hi uncle Jaime”
“Hello Soph how are you?’ he asked
“I’m good. I was just wondering if you wanted a few house guests for a little while” I asked. I heard him cough
“Sure. But you know me Soph. I won’t be around much” He said
“I know...” I whispered.
“Ok if that’s how it is when are you coming?” he asked.
“As soon as possible” I replied.
“Alright well ring me when you know your flights” he said before we said goodbye.
