Chapter 10

The next afternoon I went to pick up Tessa and found her in the middle of a crowd. I watched for a few seconds before climbing out of the car. I walked slowly up and saw her attacking some girl who was screaming profanities at Tessa.

“Take it back!” Tessa was screaming

‘Get off me bitch” the girl screamed back. I began to cut through and so did another parent. I pulled Tessa off and when she saw it was me she straightened up

“Mum... I can explain”

“Why are you fighting this girl?” I asked quietly.

“Because she said something really bad” I looked up at the other mum and walked over with Tessa

“You need to keep your sister under control” the woman scowled

“She is my daughter actually and it appears that your daughter started it” I said folding my arms. The woman’s eyebrows raised and she scoffed

“Aren't you a little young to have a fifteen year old daughter?” she asked

“No I’m not” I retorted.

“I told you mum” the girl snapped

“Watch your attitude when addressing your elder” I said

“You need to watch your attitude when addressing my daughter” this was going to end in a fight which I didn't want to deal with.

“How did this fight start?” the woman asked

“Well here I was innocently waiting for you when this... this psycho jumped me” the girl said. I frowned thinking about how I had a similar situation back in school with Laylah.

“I did not” Tessa defended. I looked at Tessa and motioned for  her to explain

“I was walking out when she said ‘oh look there goes the bastard child that no-one wanted!” Tessa said with tears in her eyes

“I did not” the girl snapped. They went to attack each other again but I pulled Tessa back.

“I want you both to apologise to each other” I said

“Excuse me?” the girl said not believing her ears. Her mother just looked at me

“You heard me. this is childish and we both know that as parents we will be biased and not believe the other. So I think an apology is in order”

“Do not apologise Drew” the woman said.

“Why not? Don't you want to teach your daughter respect and that this attitude is not ok?” I questioned

“I believe that they should fight it out themselves. If your daughter is too childish and dobs then it’s her own fault for getting picked on” the woman said folding her arms and mimicking her daughter’s smug look

“Your daughter and you are really a piece of work. I am surprised that she isn't in therapy” I said out of spite. The woman scowled

“At least my child was wanted. Made with love unlike your bastard that was conceived in a drunken stupor” that was the last straw. I tackled her and we started fighting. I slapped her hard and she began screaming at me and abusing Tessa and me both. We were surrounded by other children who were entertained by the fight which wasn’t a surprise to me. But I was pulled off by Clive and the other woman was helped up by Greg. I looked at Clive who was trying to hide his proud smile as he straightened my up
