Chapter 9
I picked Tessa up and we began driving to Dex’s.
“So I had a chat with your principal today” she groaned
“What did he say?” she asked
“He told me you were getting bullied”
“He told you?!” she said outraged
“what I don't understand if why you didn't tell me” I said feeling disappointed
“I didn't want you to worry” she muttered
“I am your mother so I do worry” I said frowning at the road.
“I’m sorry I didn't tell you”
“I heard this girl was baiting you” I said softly
“She is such a bitch! She keeps making jabs at our family” she burst out. I sighed
“Honey I need you to know that both your father and I love you very much” I said
“I know that” she muttered
“Next time I need to go out you are not going to Uncle Declande’s and aunty Maree’s. You are going to your dad’s house” I said in my mother tone.
“But mum...” she wailed
“No buts!” I scowled. She sighed angrily before going silent. I was amazed at the size of Dex’s house. It was huge and I couldn't believe my eyes. I even checked the address again before seeing Maree come running out looking happy
“Hey!” she said happily hugging me and then hugging Tessa
‘Thanks so much for this” I said following her up the driveway
“No problem we are so glad you are letting us be part of her life” she said bubbling as she got to the door
“You are family” was all I said
“Decky they’re here” she yelled as we entered. Dex came downstairs looking like he just finished work. His sleeves were rolled up and his tie was loosened. He looked tired and I felt instantly guilty. He grinned and hugged me before pulling Tessa into a hug
“Hey ladies” he said grinning
“Thanks so much”
“Anytime” he said smiling
“Your house if huge!” Tessa said gushing. I smiled at her and then Maree pulled her away for a tour
“I have to get going but I will pick her up at around eight for school”
“We’ll drop her off” Dex said immediately and Maree was nodding like a madman.
“Ok I will pick her up from school”
“What about my stuff”
“Well how about you leave it here and then since your mum and you are coming here tomorrow night you can take it back then” Maree offered.
“Thanks again” I said hugging them both and then hugging Tessa
“Behave” I said sternly. She rolled her eyes and smiled before hugging me again
“Have fun with Philip” she said before shoving me out the door
“Bye guys” I called before I headed to my car.
When I got home I had a shower and began sorting out my outfits to try and find something to wear. It wasn’t working very well because I didn't know where we were going. I decided to play it safe and put on a pair of my fancy jeans, my boots and a shirt with a scarf and my good coat. By the time I was ready the doorbell rang. I was nervous but I knew this would be fun. When I opened the door Philip handed me a bouquet of orchids making me grin
