Chapter 3

Taylor’s P.O.V

Repairing a car was like a mantra to me now. When I had first opened this place it was for all the wrong reasons. I came here to escape from the problems at home but then I started to enjoy it and business was booming. I heard the phone ring and then my assistant Jacob poked his head out

“Boss? It’s your mum” he said. I frowned and sighed before wiping my hands

“I’m busy mum what’s up?” I asked

“Taylor Hex I am the woman who birthed you so you do not speak to me like that. But anyway I just talked to Jaime Catterlano...”

“I know who he is” I said tensing

“Anyway he was asking if you could fix up his car at some point?” She requested. Every time I saw Jaime I was reminded of a certain girl that left. I let out a breath I didn't realise I was holding

“Sure tell him to drop it off tomorrow. It’s too late now” I said before rubbing my forehead.

“Thanks darling I will see you tomorrow night right? For Sunday dinner?” she asked hopefully. I hated Sunday dinner with my family now since mum had re-married Shawn and Dex had his bimbo of a wife, dinner was a non-stop round of who knows more and who makes more money to gloat about.

“Actually mum...” I began but she cut me off

“You will not say no to me!” she snapped before hanging up. I guessed I didn't have a choice. I went back to work and dismissed Jacob before working until nine and then heading home. When I got home the lights were on which meant that Gia was home. I smiled and got out of the car. When I walked in she was sitting on the couch flicking through the television

“Hey sweetie” she said happily before getting up and kissing my cheek. I grinned at her and then hugged her.

“I’m going to have a shower” I said kissing her quickly and then heading up to the bathroom to clean up. Gia and I had been together for three years and we were engaged. She and I had met when she dropped her car in for a service and I had spilled oil all over her. Gia was from England but moved her and we were getting married in five months.

Sunday rolled around and I was nervous about going to mum’s house. Gia and mum didn't really get along and I hadn't actually told her about Sophia and having a daughter. Mum had always accused Gia of being a gold digger and being a fake. I had already been down that road in high school and I knew how to spot them and Gia wasn’t one. We arrived at mum’s and I knocked. When she opened the door she plastered on her fake smile

“Hello darling. Gia” her tone was curt when it came to Gia

“Mum” I muttered. She seemed flustered about something. I ignored it and walked inside pulling Gia with me. I saw Shawn there reading the paper

“Hey guys” he said smiling but I could see he wasn’t happy to see me but I didn't care. When he married mum I didn't trust him since he seemed shifty but kept my mouth closed.

“We’re just waiting for Declande and Maree” mum said walking in and setting some drinks on the table.

“Great” I muttered sarcastically. Dex and I hadn't gotten along in over ten years since he blamed me for not seeing Sophia ever again and not being able to get into contact with her. So we fought and then Dex married his bimbo but I knew that deep down he still loved Soph. She was his first love and you don't forget your first love. The door opened and in walked Dex in a crisp new suit and on his arm in a short dress was Maree who looked smug.

“Hey mum” he said kissing her cheek before sending me a icy look and then shook hands with Shawn.

“Great we’re all here!” mum said excitedly. While mum was setting the table with her two daughters in law, us guys were outside drinking a beer and keeping an eye on the meat.

“So boys ready to be friends again?” Shawn asked.

“Nope” we both snapped

“Look you two are brothers and this random girl comes in and tears you apart. She doesn’t sound worth it to me”

“she was” Dex snapped

“She was worth everything” I muttered. I saw Shawn send us a knowing look and we ignored him. I heard the phone ring before a delighted sound made by mum. She was buzzing and bouncing when she came outside

“We have three more guests coming tonight!” she exclaimed happily before turning and running inside again. I frowned wondering who was coming to dinner. About fifteen minutes later I heard the doorbell ring.
