Chapter 17
I was up and getting dressed
“Where are you going?” he asked
“Tessa’s in the hospital” I said buttoning up my jeans
“I’m sure she will be fine” he said standing up and bringing me towards him again. I pushed him away
“She isn't. Suzie wouldn't ring sounding so upset” I said pulling away. I was actually upset that he didn't understand
“I need to go” I said buttoning up my shirt. I grabbed my purse and walked out the door
“Let me drive you” he said coming after me. We drove to the hospital and I saw Suzie, Jaime and Shawn there. Jaime was pacing and Suzie was sobbing into Shawn’s shoulder
“Suzie!” I could barely contain the agony in my voice. They all looked at me and Jaime hugged me
“Soph... it’s bad” was all he said. I burst out in tears because my baby was in the hospital
“Has someone called Taylor?” I heard Philip say.
“I did he should be here soon” Dex said coming around the corner. I looked up at him and saw Maree with tears in her eyes. When she saw me she walked over and I hugged her crying
“Can someone tell me what’s going on?” I asked through my tears.
“I’ll go get the doctor and the friend” Shawn said disappearing. Soon he was there with a young guy who had a cut on his eyebrow and the doctor
“Sophia” the doctor said. I nodded and wiped my eyes “I’m afraid that Tessa had to have emergency surgery. We lost her on the table but got her heart rate back. But she is in a coma” I couldn't help the tears that streamed down my face
“Oh god” I cried harder.
“I’m so sorry Ms. Catterlano” the young man said. I looked up at him with tears
“What happened?” I demanded angrily.
“I didn't see the car... I swear”
“Sophia!” Taylor’s voice made my eyes water again and I turned just in time to hug him tightly.
“She’s in a coma and she almost died” I cried into his shirt. He hugged me tightly and had tears in his eyes. He looked behind me
“What happened?” he asked in the same tone I used.
“We were stopped at an intersection... I swear there were no cars... Then I felt the impact” he said looking so guilty. Good I thought. Then my tears started all over again. My baby was in a terrible accident and she almost died. I clung to Taylor so tightly and couldn't let go. He rubbed my back soothingly but I could feel his tension.
An hour later I was sitting on the chair just blindly staring at nothing while Philip and Taylor sat either side of me. I was so worried that my stomach was in knots. I should have never let her go. I shouldn’t have allowed her to go to the after party.
“I’m sorry Soph but I need to go” Philip said looking at his phone. I nodded and he kissed my head before leaving. Another hour passed before the doctor came out again
‘You can see her now”
“Is she awake?” Taylor asked holding me
“No unfortunately Tessa’s coma is a mental one. When she is ready she will wake up. It could be hours, days or even months” I didn't know how I would deal with this. We all walked to her room and I stopped when I saw her. She had a bandage wrapped around her head which had some blood seeping through, she had a cast all the way up her left arm and a cast on her right leg. She had bruises and cuts all over and it made me cry all over again
