The Selection - Part 2

"School sweet school!" Asher closes his eyes and breathes out a long, calming breath as he hops off the train.

"I hate this place." I groan quietly to myself as Danny and I fall into step at his side.

We all stop in sync, looking out as the all of the different color-coded students arrive through the gates, hustling and bustling into the brick unwelcoming building we called school.

Our school is mixed with all the quarters except the Untouchables. When putting the school together, administrators thought it would be beneficial for students to be exposed to the other quarters, so everyone can experience the diversity within the different groups.

It's quite hypocritical if you ask me.

To be introduced to all of the other quarters, learning all of their ways and beliefs, yet we aren't allowed to depart from our own ethics.

And very rarely did you find other factions befriending each other, let alone even associating with one another.

"C'mon Ky," Asher shrugs with a smile, bumping my shoulder, "It's not that bad."

I scoff and roll my eyes. "Yeah, that's thanks to the fact that ninety percent of the time you're here, you're more preoccupied being an womanizer than with the actual school itself."

"That's not true!" he turns to me quickly and voices defensively.

Before I have the chance to counter him, a group of Lionheart girls walk past us.

"Heyyy Asher!" The blonde haired girl in the middle smiles, batting her eyelashes at him seductively.

Ew. Ew. Ew. EW.

That was pathetic.

Danny and I share a knowing look before turning back to Asher with raised eyebrows.

He crosses his arms with a huff, grumbling under his breath. "Don't say it."

Danny doubles over and bursts into a loud, harsh cackle of laughter.

I want to stay straight faced, but before I can stop myself my poker straight mouth twitches upwards and I am giggling despite myself.

Asher rolls his eyes, unable to stifle a grin.

"I hate you guys." he chuckles with flushed cheeks and he reaches in front of me to grab Danny.

With a laugh, Danny takes off and sprints through the front doors to get away from him, Asher quick on his tail.

Walking through the entrance doors, the monotone buzz of several-hundred voices hums like an orchestra of deadbeat droids.

The halls are crowded with people, and the chaos is so perfect, it is like a movie.

There is that Vulpine couple who's always making out on the left side of the hall, and about ten feet farther down are the Sapient girls, giggling amongst one another whilst fixing their hair. Opposite them, the cliquey jocks known as the Brawns, and to the far side of them was a parade of Indulgents who were on the side reviewing their assignments with each other.

At this point I have already lost both Asher and Danny, and have no desire to run off and find them. I didn't need to risk the chance of being late to class after everything we went through this morning just to be on time.

After grabbing my books from my locker, I'm about to head off for my first period class—well, that is until an earsplitting bang a couple feet behind me almost sends me into cardiac arrest.
