Round Two - Part 2Kaiden stands there with wide eyes, along with everyone else.
Arabella leans on Ace for support, both with forlorn looks, while Asher slumps against a tree, burying his face in his hands.
I let out a long, ragged breath as I slump back into myself. The gears in my head are going a hundred miles an hour as I stare down into the dirt, too overwhelmed too speak.
"Pax what does this mean?" Asher turns to him with an urgency in his voice, "Can you get the saliva out?"
Pax stands there unresponsive, his face pale.
He looks like he's about to throw up.
And it's not making me feel any better than I was a couple minutes ago.
"PAX?!" Asher raises his voice at him frantically.
Pax shakes his head as he snaps out of his daze, turning his focus towards me.
"I-I'm sorry.....there's no way I can get it out." His voice falters as his eyes flick to mine, "It's impossible since it's already circulating your blood."
Asher lets out a shuddering sigh and runs his hand through his hair. "How—How about a blood transfusion?!"
Pax shakes his head at him.
"It won't work. It's already been attempted by the enclosure scientists multiple times with no luck. Plus, I don't have the time nor the equipment to even attempt a procedure like that."
He turns towards me, biting his lip with a sympathetic look.
A look that tells me everything I need to know.
"But I might be able to slow the process down for you Kyla....you know.....make it less painful." Pax offers.
I feel like I might pass out.
Asher paces back and forth as the group falls into a steady silence.
Suddenly, Asher slams his fist into the nearest tree, his outburst taking everyone completely off guard.
"SO YOU'RE ALL JUST GIVING UP?!" he throws his hands up, his voice raising frustratedly, "WE'RE GOING TO LET HER DIE?!"
"Asher stop....." I let out a heavy sigh, my eyes shutting tight, "This isn't anyone's fault. No one's giving up."
He falls silent, his throat working as he swallows hard. I look over at Pax to find
his eyes glossy.I'm not dead yet, guys.
Key word being yet.
I can't help but let out a small whimper as my side increases in pain. I continue to hold pressure on it as it throbs.
Don't cry, don't cry, don't cry.
"She's in pain!" Asher's voice breaks and I can see the struggle in his eyes, "And you're telling me we have to stand here and watch!"
