Round Two - Part 1*BEEP* *BEEP* *BEEP*
I shoot up from my bed, eyes bleary.
*BEEP* *BEEP* *BEEP*
My heart jumps into my throat as my brain tries to register the meaning of the jarring racket. I cover my ears with my pillow as the blaring of sirens continues to fill the air.
*BEEP* *BEEP* *BEEP*
Quickly, I throw off my bed sheets and rush into the main living area to see what the commotion is.
Asher hurries out of his room at the same time.
"What the hell is that noise?" he yells as he holds his hands over his ears, attempting to mute out the sound.
Arabella and Ace hustle out of their rooms, Pax following suit.
"What the fuck is going on now?" Arabella grimaces.
"It's coming from outside!" I reply, pointing up toward the hatch.
"Should we go out and check?!" Ace asks.
"Wait....." I cut him off, not answering his question, "Where's Kaiden?"
As if on cue, the hatch door swings open and he frantically comes climbing down.
"Everyone move it." Kaiden hops down from the ladder rushing into the room. He starts shoving items into a dufflebag he grabs from off the couch, "We've got to get out of here."
"What?" I try to speak over the tocsin, "What do you mean?"
"I'll explain on the way. Grab everything that's important to you. Food, clothes, weapons....everything. We need to leave now."
"You hold on a second!" Asher storms up to him with a scowl, "We're not going anywhere until you tell us what the fuck is going on!"
Kaiden shakes his head with a laugh that shows no amusement. "You can stay here for all I care. But the more you run that big mouth of yours, the less time the rest of us have to get out of here!"
"Kaiden." I walk over to him, voice calm and soft, "What's going on?"
He holds my stare before letting out a small, succumbing huff.
"Round two has already started." he explains, "The arena's barrier, the one that separates us from the enclosure as well as the outside, is closing in on us, making the land mass smaller as we speak."
Arabella shakes her head incredulously. "They're shirking the playing field?"
Kaiden nods his head at her. "Exactly. Less ground to cover makes it harder for everyone."
"How is that even possible?" Ace asks, "If the wall is moving in isn't that going to destroy everything in its path?"
"Yep and that includes us. If we're not out of here in the next ten minutes this place in going to cave in under us from all the pressure of the wall condensing."
